Leg lift backwards weight bearing on prosthetic limb
Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your hands resting on a chair in front of
you. Take your unaffected leg back while keeping your knee straight
and body upright.
Precautions
Ensure that the patient is stable and safe if using a chair for support.
A solid structure such as a table will provide more stability.

Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your hands resting on a chair in front of
you. Take your prosthetic limb back while keeping your knee straight
and body upright.

Leg lift sideways weight bearing on your prosthetic limb


Client`s instructions
Position yourself in standing with your hand resting on a chair next to
your prosthetic limb. Lift your unaffected leg up sideways with knee
extended. Maintain a straight posture by aligning your nose, belly
button and great toe.

unaffected side. Lift your prosthetic leg sideways with knee extended.

Running
Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing. Practice running in a straight line.

Shift and lift


Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing on an even surface and arms out to the
side. Shift your weight over your prosthetic limb and practice standing
on the limb and lift unaffected foot off floor.

Position yourself standing with your feet slightly apart. Practice
transferring your weight onto your prosthetic limb then back onto your
unaffected leg. Ensure that your shoulders remain over your hips.
Progressions and variations
Less advanced: 1. Provide hand support for balance. 2. Use cues for
feedback about lateral displacement of the hips. More advanced: 1.
Cross the arms across the chest.

Weight transfer with hands across chest


Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your feet slightly apart. Practice
transferring your weight onto your prosthetic limb then back onto your
unaffected leg. Ensure that your shoulders remain over your hips.
Progressions and variations
Less advanced: 1. Provide hand support for balance. 2. Use cues for
feedback about lateral displacement of the hips. 3. Place your hands
on the hips.

Weight transfer with upper limb support

Side-stepping
Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your feet a few cms apart. Practice
taking a big step sideways making sure you move your weight in the
direction of the step. Ensure that your knees are kept straight and
your feet point forwards.
Progressions and variations
Less advanced: 1. Have upper limb support nearby. More advanced:
1. Increase step size. 2. Add concurrent cognitive and/or manual
task/s. 3. Begin with legs crossed and step sideways. 4. Reduce
upper limb support.

Side-stepping
Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your feet together. Practice stepping
sideways. Ensure that your knees are kept straight and your feet point
forwards.
Progressions and variations
Less advanced: 1. Take smaller steps. More advanced: 1. Take larger
steps.

Squats with prosthetic limb


Client`s instructions
Position yourself standing with your hands resting on a table or chair
in front of you. Hold onto the table and squat.
Precautions
Ensure that the patient is stable and safe if using a chair for support.
A solid structure such as a table will provide more stability.
