The flourish of the First Romanesque style in Northern Italy, sections of France,

and the Iberian Peninsula happened on the 10th and 11th centuries (Lumen, n.d.). The
following chief artists are some of the pioneers of the Romanesque style in the field of
architecture during that time:

Buscheto di Giovanni

He was an Italian architect worked in the city of Pisa. He is active in the second
half of the 11th century and into the 12th century. He envisioned the magnificent
Cathedral of Pisa, placed in Pisa, whose construction he oversaw to a major part, but it
was finished by Rainaldo with great regard for the original design (TheBiography, n.d.).

Buscheto di Giovanni begun his famous work of Cathedral Complex of Pisa in

1064. The expenditures were covered with the spoils from the 1063 battle against the
Muslims in Sicily. Its architecture is distinguished by a thorough understanding of
ancient antiquity's models, endowing it with enormous monumentality (Blogspot, n.d.).

He is famous for his architectural work for the Cathedral Complex of Pisa. The
Cathedral Complex of Pisa, which houses the Cathedral, the Leaning Tower, the
Baptistery, and the Cemetery, is one of the most magnificent squares in all of Italy. The
Cathedral has been named the outstanding example of Pisan Romanesque architecture
(Blogspot, n.d.).

Biduino or Biduinus
Biduino or Biduinus (1173–1194) was an Italian Romanesque sculptor and
architect working in the Pisa and Lucca areas. His name was adapted from his
birthplace of Bidogno in Val, near Lugano (Alchetron, 2018).
A large number of signed and dated pieces and others that can still be
distinguished stylistically testifies to his activity and demonstrates his high level of self-
awareness. Biduino's language, founded on the study of late imperial and early
Christian art, had a lot of success until the early 13th century, owing to his collaborators
and followers who propagated his style across Tuscany (Semenovich, n.d.)
He is known for his work which can be seen in lintel above the central doorway of
San Cassiano a Settimo, near Cascina. The work depicts Christ healing the two blind
men of Jericho, raising Lazarus, and entering Jerusalem. The year 1180 is engraved,
along with the inscription 'Hoc opus quod cernis Biduinus docte peregit'. Biduino
accomplished the work skillfully. Biduino is credited for the church's complete
architecture and decoration (Oxford Art Online, n.d.).
