DIRECTED WRITING - 25 MARKS (15 MARKS FOR READING AND 10 MARKS FOR WRITING)

Question 3 Imagine you are Mr Penumbra. Clay has been working in your store now
for over a year and has suggested ways to improve the bookshop and increase trade.
You reflect on your thoughts and Clay’s suggestions in your journal.

In your journal, you should:


• remember what exactly happened the day you first met Clay and your impressions
of him

• reflect on the shop as it is now – what you like about it

• outline the suggestions Clay has made for how he could help improve the bookstore.

you sound spoken, involve the audience
by asking questions, introduce humour if
the topic allows..you can also use non
sentences or single words (sparingly) to
add to the spoken tone. Avoid very long
complex sentences.
INTERVIEW Stick to the 3 original questions and do
not try to reframe them or add your own
questions. Sound spoken and add
interjections and questions to involve the
audience… Well! Let me think… Oh
really.. etc
