2. Entry of the crane operating states
The basic function of the AML is to calculate the load ratio during crane operation, then to transmit its
information to the crane operator and to stop the crane motion when overloading is detected. Before starting
crane operation, the crane-operating condition must be entered correctly.

In this system, the operator must enter the following actual states of the crane:

• State of outriggers
• State of counterweight
• State with boom or jib
• Number of rope falls

Note:
The crane operating states can only be entered with the boom completely retracted.

2.1. Entering the outrigger state

In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Outriggers>. A submenu appears in which the
extension widths can be entered.

By actuating the keys <Outriggers>, <F3> or <F4>, the outrigger display changes over to the next state. To
acknowledge the selected extension width, actuate the key <Input>. Subsequently, the system returns
automatically to the main screen.

0710_EN_FA042_AML-C
2007-08 9/18
Possible extension widths (depending on which load charts are enabled):

Extension width 6.3 m Extension width 4.3m Work free on wheels

2.2. Entering the counterweight state

In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Counterweight>. A submenu appears in which the
counterweight can be entered.

By actuating the keys <Counterweight>, <F3> or <F4>, the counterweight display changes over to the next
state. To acknowledge the selected counterweight, actuate the key <Input>. Subsequently, the system
returns automatically to the main screen.

0710_EN_FA042_AML-C
2007-08 10/18
2.3. Entering the boom / jib state
In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Boom>. A submenu appears in which the boom state
can be entered.

By actuating the keys <Boom>, <F3> or <F4>, the boom state changes. To acknowledge the selected boom
state, actuate the key <Input>. Subsequently, the system returns automatically to the main screen.

The following states are possible (depending on which load charts are enabled):

• Operation with main boom

• Set-up mode, indicated by the flashing jib symbol in the selection menu. To set up and to reset the jib
to its former rig arrangement. On the main screen, there is no display of rated and actual load, no
shut-off on overload and on actuation of the hoist limit switch.
Caution: Risk of accidents !

• Operation with jib; length 9 m, angle 0°

• Operation with jib; length 9 m, angle 20°

• Operation with jib; length 9 m, angle 40°

• Operation with jib; length 16 m, angle 0°

• Operation with jib; length 16 m, angle 20°

• Operation with jib; length 16 m, angle 40°

2.4. Entering the rope falls
In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Rope falls>. A submenu appears to enable input of the
number of rope falls (number of part lines).

By actuating the keys <Rope falls>, <F3> or <F4>, the number of rope falls changes. To acknowledge the
selected number of rope falls, actuate the key <Input>. Subsequently, the system returns automatically to
the main screen.

0710_EN_FA042_AML-C
2007-08 12/18
3. Working area monitoring
The AML-C provides for a working area warning or a working area limitation (optional).

3.1. Working area warning

If a range has been entered for the working area warning in the AML-C and the crane reaches this limit
range, a visual and acoustic warning is issued for the crane operator.

A working area warning is possible for the following areas:

• Height
• Work radius
• Upper boom angle
• Lower boom angle

3.1.1. Selection, input and cancellation of working areas

In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Working area>. A submenu appears in which the
working areas can be entered.

In this submenu, the four working areas are displayed. The keys <working area>, <F3> and <F4> can be
actuated to change between these areas. The currently selected working area is followed by the current
value. To select an area, actuate the key <Input>. The system returns automatically to the main screen and
the LED for the selected area flashes. If an additional area is to be selected, the key <Working area> must
be actuated again to return to the submenu and to select the additional area via the key <Input>.
To delete a working area, proceed analogously. Change over to the submenu via <working area>, select the
area to be deleted via the keys <working area>, <F3> and <F4> and acknowledge via the key <Input>. If
several activated areas are to be deleted simultaneously, this is done in the submenu via the key <F1>.

3.1.2. Display of the working area warning function

The activated working area warning functions are indicated via the appropriate LEDs (see 1.2.1). If the
function is active, the LED is lit; if the limit has been reached, the LED flashes. Once the limit has been
reached, an acoustic intermittent signal sounds additionally and a warning message appears on the display.

0710_EN_FA042_AML-C
2007-08 13/18
3.2. Working area limitation (optional)
If a range for the working area limitation has been entered in the AML-C and the crane reaches this limit
range, the crane movement is stopped and a visual and acoustic warning is issued for the crane operator.

A working area limitation is possible for the following areas:

• Height
• Work radius
• Upper boom angle
• Lower boom angle
• Left-hand swing angle
• Right-hand swing angle

3.2.1. Selection, input and cancellation of working areas

In normal display state of the AML-C, press the key <Working area>. A submenu appears in which the
working areas can be entered.

Working areas are selected, entered and cancelled as described under 3.1.1.

3.2.2. Display of the working area limitation function

The activated working area limitation functions area displayed by the LEDs pertaining to them (see 1.2.1). If
the function is active, the LED is lit. Once the limit is reached, the LED flashes and the crane movement is
stopped. Moreover, an acoustic signal sounds at short intervals and a warning message appears.

0710_EN_FA042_AML-C
2007-08 14/18
In case of the limitation function for left-hand swing and right-hand swing, an additional indication appears in
the multifunction area (big display, swing angle).

Limitation,
right-hand
swing

Limitation,
left-hand
swing

Moreover, approx. 15° before the limit is reached, the swing movement is decelerated and an acoustic signal
sounds at long intervals.

3.3. Saving the values

The AML-C saves the entered values for the working area warning or limitation function after power-off.

2007-08 15/18
4. Check function
When the key <Check> is actuated, the AML-C returns to check mode. The following items can be checked.

• Display: the entire display is blank (black).

• LEDs: All LEDs are lit.
• Buzzer: Buzzer alarm sounds.
• Crane Operation: All movements increasing the load moment (winch wind-up, boom lowering and
extending operations) are switched off.

By pressing the key <Check> again, the system returns to normal display mode.

5. Menu
To display the service menu of the AML-C, actuate the key <Menu>.

Actuate the keys <F3> or <F4> to change over between the two menu items Winch rotation indicator and
Contrast. To acknowledge the selection, actuate the key <Input>.

5.1. Winch rotation indicator menu

Actuate the keys <F3> or <F4> to select between the items Acoustic winch rotation indicator ON or Acoustic
winch rotation indicator OFF. Acknowledge the selection by actuating the key <Input>.

5.2. Contrast menu

The display contrast can be changed by actuating the keys <F1> and <F2>. Acknowledge the selection by
actuating the key <Input>.

Once these settings have been made, they are saved for a subsequent system restart.

Restoration of the standard contrast:

To get the standard contrast settings back, push in the main screen the button <cancel> for approximately 3
seconds.
