Program Description

1 General Program Description

The “EEPROM Data Management” software is used to display and file
operational data of ECOS-controlled cranes.
The program can carry out the following functions:

• Record crane data in the archive

• Export crane data from the archive

• Display selected details

• Generate a detailed report which can be viewed and printed out with
MS Word.

2 Installation
Installation is started by running the setup.exe file.
All of the further steps are set out in the Installation program.
When starting the program for the first time, the directory paths must first
be set in the Settings pull-down menu, if necessary.

3 Operation

3.1 Main Window

The main window contains three list boxes. The left list box is used to select the
type of crane. This displays all the types of crane, for which a database was
found in the directory which was indicated under Settings/Crane Data.
If no database is found or the database is in the wrong format, the list boxes will
remain grey.
Æ Indicate the correct path under Settings/Crane Data

The middle list box indicates all the cranes contained in the database selected on
the left. The serial number, the ECOS software version, the date and time, as
well as the original number of the fitter who was the last to read out the
EEPROM data, are displayed. The standard procedure is for the data to be sorted
in ascending order according to serial numbers. However, the records can be
resorted as appropriate by clicking on the column heading. Clicking on the
column heading again changes the display between ascending and descending
order.

Program Description

The right list box displays all of the records for the selected crane. The most
recent record is located right at the top in each case. The records can be sorted in
the same way as the middle list box.

The desired record is selected as follows:

1. Select type of crane (left list box),

2. Select serial number (middle list box),
3. Select readout date (right list box).

Note:
The type of crane selected, serial number and date are shown in grey.

The operation can be carried out either with the mouse or the keyboard:

Keyboard layout:

TAB : Next list box/button

SHIFT + TAB : Previous list box/button
Arrow keys : Scroll up/down in the list box
ENTER : Display details regarding record selected
ESCAPE : Close detail window

3.2 Import

Importing EEPROM data into an archive.

Clicking on the Import menu item in the File pull-down menu opens the
following dialog window:

The desired file can be selected either by entering the file name in the File
Name field or by clicking on it.

After pressing the Open button, the program asks whether the selected crane
should be added to the database:

Program Description

Selection possibilities:

Yes : Add crane data to the database.

No : Do not add crane data to the database, select another crane
(back to the previous dialog box).
Abort : Do not add crane data to the database, abort process.

Notes:
If no database yet exists for the selected crane, it is created in the path indicated
under Settings/Crane Data.
If the EEPROM data is not valid or is already contained in the database, an error
message to this effect will be emitted.

3.3 Export

Exporting EEPROM data from the archive into a file.

By clicking on the Export menu item in the File pull-down menu or by pressing
the Export button at the bottom in the main window, the EEPROM data of the
selected crane is written into a file.
If the corresponding file already exists, the program asks whether the old file
should be overwritten.

Once the file has been successfully exported, the following message is emitted:

The file is now located in the directory which is indicated under

Settings/Export.

3.4 Report

Generating a report in RTF* format.

Clicking on the Report menu item in the File pull-down menu or pressing the
Report button at the bottom in the main window generates a report which
presents all of the EEPROM data of the selected crane in detail. The report is
located in the directory indicated under Settings/Report.

While the report is being generated a status bar displays the current progress.
The Abort button terminates the process.

Once the report has been generated, it can be displayed with Microsoft Word.

Obviously this option only functions, if MS Word is installed.

*(RTF = Rich Text Format)

3.5 Details

Displaying selected EEPROM data.

Double clicking on the desired EEPROM data in the right list box or pressing
the Details button at the bottom in the main window opens a window which
displays the most important EEPROM data of the selected crane.

The detail view can be closed with the ESCAPE key or the “Close window
button” on the title bar.

Notes:

The detail window is always in the foreground.

The size and position can be changed and are stored when the program is
terminated.
Whilst the detail window is visible, it is possible to continue selecting crane data
in the main window. The display in the detail window is constantly updated.

3.6 Setting Directory Paths

The following paths can be set in the Settings pull-down menu:

Import:
Directory in which new EEPROM data is located, which is intended to be
recorded in the crane data archive.
Default: j:\Crane data\ECOS\Import

Export:
Directory into which EEPROM data exported from the crane data archive is
written.
Default: j:\Crane data\ECOS\Export

Crane data:
Directory in which the crane data archives are located.
Default: j:\Crane data\ECOS\Archive

Report:
Directory in which the reports are generated.
Default: j:\Crane data\ECOS\Reports

Program Description

Clicking on the corresponding directory in the Settings pull-down menu opens a

dialog window in which the directory path can be altered.

The directory paths can also be altered by editing the sys.ini file in the program
directory. Any ASCII-Editor (e.g. Notepad.exe) can be used as an editor.

3.7 Set Language

The language can be changed between German and English in the Settings pull-
down menu. The current language is indicated by a check mark.

3.8 Terminate Program

EEPROM Data Management is terminated by selecting the Terminate menu

item in the File pull-down menu, pressing the combination of keys ALT + F4 or
using the “Close window button” on the title bar.

4.1 Databases

4.1.1 Original Number Database

To ensure that the relevant name of the fitter can be displayed in the detail
window as well as the original number, there must be a MS Access database
with the following structure in the program directory.

File name: stammnr.mdb
