Just Like Ally

Ang Hitman ni Sexy Ally Ang Way ng UPF. This was the title of the play we were told
to watch. I was really thrilled and somewhat puzzled. I was thrilled because after several
semesters I am again watching a play plus it was for free. What added to my excitement was the
fact that our very own lecturer directed the play. The puzzled feeling came because of the title. I
was informed beforehand about the story behind the play and it the story does not involve
shooting. I was really wondering why there is a hit man in the title.

The day to watch the play came. I was expecting to see lots of characters in the play, like
a typical play with many casts in it. But to my surprise, there were just few. I was also surprised
by the way the play was presented. It was not the usual kind of thing. I thought that I would
easily get the meaning of things but I was wrong. There were many ‘hidden meanings’ portrayed
in the play that up until I am still trying to figure out. The first I would like to comment on was
why there is a hit man. The hit man, in my opinion, symbolizes Ally’s struggles, pains. As seen
in the play, the hit man tries to stop Ally from coming back to life and be dead forever. This is
also true for her pains and struggles. Ally’s struggles and pains hinder her to be ‘alive’. They
tried to stop her from experiencing life: being happy, feeling loved, and being able to serve other
people and her family. But she was able to hold on. This leads me to my second point. The doll
that makes an I love you sound. For me, that doll or toy represents the love and care her family
and her friends are giving her. Like the doll or toy, the love and care that the people around her
give made her stronger and gives the idea that the pain and the struggles she had went through
are become weaker. Lastly, the gun shots she released towards the end of the play. In my
opinion, those gun shots represents her determination and will to be strong and win over her
adversaries. Though she died she was able to fight a good fight. She suffered a great of a deal but
she was able to overcome those sufferings.

The lesson I have learned from the play is that this world does not guarantee happiness
and comfort all the time. We will experience challenges even the gravest of them all without
prior notice. We can just give in to those challenges and pains and cease to live. But we can
always stand up even if they are dragging us down. We do not have to be afraid of pain.
Welcome it gladly. However, we must not succumb to it but we must fight it with all that we
have, even until the very last our breath just like what Ally did.
