WARNING
Ionising radiation
Exposures may only be taken from behind protected areas!

There are two methods for initiating the exposure:

1. Panel keys (32, 33, see Figure 7-1 )
2. Manual keys (34, 35, see Figure 7-1 )

Both keys have two steps. The first step introduces the preparation, the second step initiates
the radiation.
Note: The radiation can only be initiated when the generator has successfully processed all
internal confirmation prompts.

5.1.1.2 Automatic Exposure Control

As an option, an automatic exposure control can be supplied that processes the signals of up
to 4 measuring chambers. The tuning of the automatic exposures takes place during
commissioning as per the instructions in the Service Manual. Three different film-screen-
systems can be accommodated.
The adjustment of the automatic exposure control must be repeated anew, if circumstances
have altered that influence the film development (film manufacturer has changed,
development process altered, etc.).
The density of radiograph can be influenced in ±4 increments, whereby each increment of an
alteration corresponds to one exposure point.
An acoustic signal and a warning lamp (yellow LED in key No. 15) shows a malfunction.
Such a malfunction can be caused by
Selection of an incorrect examination unit
Preselected high voltage
Preselected mAs-product in 2-point technique too small
Preselected time in 3-point technique too short
Technical malfunction

5.2 Area dose meter
An area dose meter is available, which can be built in as an option. After an exposure the
measured value is shown in cGycm2 in the display. The data can be transmitted using a
serial interface (e.g. to an optional printer) with date and time.

5.3 Starter
The generator is equipped with a low speed starter in the standard configuration.

5.4 RS-Interfaces
Two RS232 interfaces are available. Using the interface on the control panel a service
technician can transfer organ names to the panel, which are then available for the organ
automation.
The (non-personalized) X-ray data, accrued in the course of an examination, can be
transmitted by means of the second interface on the generator control desk. The following
data are transmitted dependent of the chosen protocol:
• Date, time
• Surface dose product in cGycm²
• Number of exposures
• Exposure kV
• Exposure mA
• Exposure mAs

technique to 3-point technique

The selected operating mode can be recognized in the display:

1-point technique: Display of the tube voltage (kV) in the line R: (can only be selected when
using automatic exposure). The tube voltage can changed with the keys
40/41 (see below).
2-point technique: Display of the tube voltage (kV) and the mAs-product in the line “R:" The
tube voltage and the mAs-product can changed with the keys 40/41,
alternatively. 42/43.
COMMENT: If in this mode the automatic exposure control has been alternatively
switched on, then a higher mAs-product should be preselected,
compared to what was originally expected for the exposure. Thus the
automatic exposure control has the necessary latitude to enable the
exposure to be ended at the right moment.
3-point technique: Display of the tube voltage (kV), the tube current (mA) and the circuit
time (ms) or tube voltage (kV) and the mAs-product in the line R:. The
tube voltage, the tube current and the circuit time can changed with the
keys 40/41, 44/45, alternatively. 46/47.
COMMENT: If in this mode the automatic exposure control has been alternatively
switched on, then a longer circuit time should be preselected, compared
to what was originally expected for the exposure. Thus the automatic
exposure has the necessary latitude to enable the exposure to be ended
at the right moment.

6.6 Changing the exposure parameters, keys 40 - 45

The keys for changing the X-ray parameters are arranged directly below the display. Valid for
all parameter selection keys are: short jogging of the key changes the displayed value by one
unit, continuous pressing of the key induces a fast altering of the values.
Note: The tube protection automation only allows combinations of such values, that will not
lead to an overloading of the tube. If malfunction messages appear see Chapter 7, Warning
signals and error messages.

6.7.1 Activation
The automatic exposure control is activated, when a measuring field is selected. The
combination of several measuring fields is possible. The chosen measuring field is displayed
by a glowing LED.
If the automatic exposure control is activated, there appears in line "A" additional information
with respect to the selected density correction and the film-screen-system.
If exposures are controlled by way of the automatic exposure control, then, in 2- and 3-point
technique, the exposure parameters mAs-product, alternatively circuit time should be set to

• the preset circuit time is reached,
• the automatic exposure control switches off.

In exposure mode the exposure is immediately stopped when the operator

• releases the panel switch,
• releases the manual switch.

In malfunction situations the exposure is immediately stopped when

• the automatic exposure control determines that there is an excess or a falling
short of the dosage input power
• the maximum circuit time of the generator (>6.3s) is overshot (safety cut-off
switch).

6.10 Working with organ memory, keys 170 - 179, 159, 160

With the organ automation it is possible to store in the memory 100 settings (memory
00 - 99) for individual organs. When switching on the generator no organ name and
number appears in the display and the parameters are arbitrary.
With help of a PC, texts can be transferred for organ names; see Service Manual for
more information. The invoked parameters for the exposure can be adapted, in each
case, to the examination situation and the patient.

By pressing one of these keys there appears in the display the indicator "±x cm" behind the
organ name. Simultaneously, the parameters kV and mAs each change by one density point
per cm. The change is noted by one of the four listed tables seen below. During the
commissioning each organ group must be assigned to one of these tables.
The cm adaptation includes an area of maximum ±10 cm. If the memory-stored values of the
exposure parameters are already nearing the limits of the generator, it is possible that this
area then cannot be fully utilized.

Maintenance

7.4 Cleaning

Don't use any abrasive cleaners, organic solvents or solvent-containing detergents.

Turn off the generator before you begin with the cleaning.

Clean the generator with a damp cloth.

Ensure that no liquids can get into the generator. Short circuits can result. Do not use spray
on the X-ray generator.

7.5 Disinfection

The methods used for disinfection must correspond to legal regulations and guidelines
(disinfection, explosion protection).

COMMENT:

If disinfectants have been used, which could generate explosive gas mixtures,
then the generator may only be switched on when these have dissipated.

Turn off the generator.

Only subject the generator and the connected panels to a disinfection by wiping.

Disinfection sprays may not be applied because the atomised spray can penetrate the
insides of the device.

If a room disinfection is carried out using atomised spray, then the generator must cooled
down and carefully covered with foil.

7.6 Service

COMMENT:
Legally stipulated examinations must be executed within the required time
intervals.

A safety-related check-up should take place using qualified service personnel at least once
per year. Whereby the following maintenance and check-up work should be carried out on
the occasion:

• Visual check for recognizable damage, defects or wear:

Damaged or worn parts must be exchanged.

• Examination of the monitoring devices:

monitoring timer for fluoroscopy
monitoring timer for fluoroscopy with increased dosage
monitoring timer for exposure with and without automatic exposure

• Functional capability of the display, message, and warning facilities:

Display, irradiation display, acoustic signals

• Examination of the dose rate regulation

• Examination the irradiation consistency and linearity:

if deviations occur, check-up of the tube adaptation

• Examination of the picture quality

• Examination of the suppression of the irradiation field (depth aperture)

• Clean and lubricate high voltage plug on the tubes and on the transformer

The examination results must be properly recorded.
