Ans: Minerals & fertile soil

II)Fill in the blanks

1. The surrounding in which we live is called our environment

2. Chloro Fluro Carbon is a gas which is responsible for depletion of

Ozone layer around earth to protects us from harmful Ultraviolet rays .

3. Cholera, Typhoid and Jaundice are due to pollution of water.

4. The major contributor of Carbon monoxide is Motor vehicles.

III)True or false
1. The resources that we get from the nature are called natural
resources.
Ans: True
2. Sunlight ,water and wind are the examples of non-renewable
resources.
Ans: False
3. Global warming causes climate change on the earth.
Ans: True

4. The harmful toxic substances that cause pollution are known as

pollutants.
Ans: True
IV)Short Answer type questions
1.What is pollution?

Ans: The harmful changes made in the environment due to various

human activities are called pollutions. There are mainly four types of
pollutions

1.Air pollution 2.Water pollution 3.Soil pollution 4.Noise pollution.

2. What are the effects of air pollution?

Ans: Polluted air causes many respiratory disorders like bronchitis,

asthma & throat infections. It causes irritation to our eyes and skin.
Polluted air produces acid rain and causes damage to the soil ,plants
,animals and living organisms.

3. What is green house effect?

Ans: The heating of the earth’s atmosphere due to the trapping of heat
energy reflected from the earth’s surface by green house gases in the
atmosphere is called greenhouse effect.

4.What is Kyoto Protocol?

Ans: It is an agreement among countries to take steps for reducing
global warming.

5. How does water gets polluted?

Ans: Water is polluted due to human activities, industrial wastes, farm

effluents, sewage from homes and hospitals which is released in to
water bodies. Sea water is polluted by oil spills.
6. What role does the human activity play in the increasing
amount of green house gases?

Ans: Human activities like burning of fossil fuels in automobiles

,industries and cutting down of forests (deforestation ) increase the
level of carbon dioxide and many other harmful gases in the
atmosphere .This has resulted in increased green house effect.

HOT S:How polluted air affects the beauty of Taj Mahal?

V)Long Answers

1. Can global warming lead to an ice age? Justify your answer

with reason?
Ans: Global warming can lead to an ice age. The temperature of the
earth has increased 2.5°C in last hundred years and scientists expect
that in the next century it may rise about 3-4°C Because of global
warming .This increase in the temperature may causes climate change
on earth thus resulting in melting of polar ice ,rise in sea level and
submerging of low-lying areas near the sea. So if we don’t take serious
steps to control global warming it can lead to an ice age.

2. Differentiate renewable & non renewable source of energy?

Ans: Renewable resources are the resources which either never get
exhausted or are replaced naturally within a reasonable time period.
Eg:- sunlight ,water , wind . Non renewable resources are the
resources which cannot be replaced within a reasonable time period ,if
used up. Eg:- coal ,petroleum.
3. Write any four measures to conserve our natural resources?

Ans: Some of the measures to conserve our natural resources are

given below.

1. We should plant more trees.

2. We should reduce the wastage of water by never leaving the tap

open or by never using pipe to wash vehicles.

3. We should use renewable source of energy like solar energy,

wind energy and hydro energy to conserve the fossil fuels.

4. Catalytic converters should be installed in vehicles.
