GROUP ASSIGNMENT: GLOBAL OPERATIONS

THIS ASSIGNMENT CARRIES A 5% WEIGHTAGE IN THE COURSE

INTRODUCTION
In this assignment, you have to explore the reasons why an Indian company
sets up an operational facility outside India. Here, “facility” means a
physical, brick-and-mortar setup and “location” means the geographic
location. Facility can include, but is not limited to, offices, factories,
warehouses, centers, theatres, stores and so on. Virtual facilities or
locations (websites and portals) are excluded from this assignment.

GROUPS
• The same groups of 6 – 7 members made by the Dean’s office.
• Sharing and exchanging ideas with others is encouraged.

WHAT TO DO
Step 1: Choose an Indian organization that has operations outside India
– either ‘company’ or ‘non-profit organization’, but not both.
Step 2: Then choose a specific facility and geographic location outside
India that you will focus on.
Step 3: Browse either the internet or any other source(s) that you have
access to. Search for information that helps you answer
questions such as:
o what activities (broadly) are conducted at the chosen facility.
o why was it necessary to go outside India to locate the facility
where it is located (the ‘pros’).
o why it is not good to do so, the ‘cons’.
o anything else that you find interesting to report.
Step 4: Collate and consolidate the above information, discuss with your
team members, write a report as per the guidelines given below
and submit it before the deadline.

THE REPORT
• Must clearly address the questions mentioned in Step 3 above.
• Must be written using MS Word. Submit a MS Word file only. Do not
submit a PDF file.
• Must be written using your own words.
A professional software is used to check for similarity between the submitted report
and any information source. Any sentence(s) directly copied and pasted from your
reference source(s) will be considered equivalent to copying in an examination. This
will result in a two-grade penalty in the course (e.g. an A will be made into a B, a B+
will be made into a C+ and so on) for all team members. Likewise, two teams, whose
reports have even a few sentences identical with each other, will be similarly penalized.
In the past, students have been penalized even with a ‘F’ in the course, hence you are
advised to take this seriously.

• References (bibliography): All the reference sources from which the

information was taken must be clearly listed at the end.
• Ensure that the Group Number, Section, and Names and Roll numbers of
all the group members are clearly mentioned.
• Number of words (as indicated by MS Word in the status bar below):
minimum 400, maximum 500. If the number of words does not fall in
this range, then make suitable revisions to bring it within the given
range.
• The report must have only text. Do not include photos, drawings etc.
• The report should not exceed 2 pages of the MS Word document.
• Formatting: use only Cambria font, 12 points, with line spacing as
Multiple 1.2, margins 1” on all sides, page number at the bottom
centered. Do not have a separate title page, or acknowledgements. Do
not use any colour other than black.
