Zero force members in Trusses
Occasionally we encounter truss members that carry no force. There are
two conditions that can cause a member to become a so-called zero-force
member.
Why should I have Zero-force members in a
truss system
These members contribute to the stability of the
structure, by providing buckling prevention for
long slender members under compressive forces.
These members can carry loads in the event that
variations are introduced in the normal external
loading configuration
Conditions:

Two non-collinear members are connected at a joint.

No applied force or support reaction present at that joint.

Both members are zero-force members.

The structure in Fig. T-02 is a truss which is pinned to the floor at point A, and supported
by a roller at point D. Determine the force to all members of the truss.
