Tidal Energy

BY:- AAHANA SOLANKI 7B

Tidal Energy
Tidal power or tidal energy is harnessed by converting energy from
tides into useful forms of power, mainly electricity using various
methods. Although not yet widely used, tidal energy has the
potential for future electricity generation. Tides are more predictable
than the wind and the sun.
Tidal Energy and Climate Change

One of the major drivers for tidal

stream power generation is
combatting climate change by
reducing the CO2 emissions by
being: a 100% renewable, 100%
reliable and 100% predictable
energy source. Every kWh of power
generated by 'tidal' saves ~1,000g
CO2, compared to the same power
generated by diesel
Advantages VS Disadvantages
Tidal Turbines are 80% efficient, which is higher than solar
Effect on animals and plants living near tidal stations
Or wind energy generators

It produces no greenhouse gases or other waste Very few suitable sites for constructing barrages

High energy density than other renewable energy forms Disturbs migration of living creatures in the ocean

Water cannot be replenished, and hence dirt gets settled within

Tides are more predictable than sun or wind
the coast

They are inexpensive to maintain Formation of slit behind the barrage

Integration into present and future systems

We can use tidal energy to supply electricity to our homes and businesses.
The spinning turbine is connected to another device that produces
electricity. The electricity then travels through wires to a city where people
need it. Tidal turbines generate electricity from the ocean's tidal currents.
Tidal Energy and Sustainable development

Tidal energy is a sustainable development which offers many benefits and only a
few drawbacks. First off, tidal energy is a clean renewable resource which is more
efficient than wind energy due to the density of water and more efficient than solar
energy due to its high ~80% conversion efficiency
