1) Current situation
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 3,653,526 confirmed cases of
COVID-19 in the Philippines between January 3, 2020 and February 22, 2022, with
55,763 deaths. A total of 130,741,152 vaccine doses have been administered as of
February 9th, 2022.
2) Gov’t response
a. Vaccination Campaign - Government information officers, journalists, Human Resources
for Health team leaders, and health education and promotion officers (HEPO) from all
over the country took part in a series of strategic communication and demand-
generation workshops for the Department of Health's COVID-19 vaccination campaign in
response to the campaign, as well as a series of workshops for the whole country.
b. Policy - The National Capital Region and many other cities and towns have been put
back on Alert Level No. 3 until January 31. This could be extended based on the COVID-
19 situation by Jan. 31. As soon as both total beds and ICU beds are used up, these areas
may even be put on Alert Level No. 4. The government has since taken steps to at least
slow down the rise in COVID-19 cases. The "No Vaccination, No Ride Policy" is one of the
things the government has done to help people. Public transportation will only be
available to people in the National Capital Region who have been fully vaccinated
against COVID-19 if the region is put on Alert Level No. 3 or higher. The Department of
Transportation (DoTr) issued its Department Order No. 2022-001 to make this happen.
Only people who have been fully vaccinated can use public transportation on land, by
rail, by sea, or by air when the NCR is on Alert Level No. 3 or above. Those who drive
public utility vehicles that don't follow the policy could be hit with a fine of up to
P10,000, or their PUV license could be suspended or revoked, depending on the severity
of their offense.
