INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
PROPOSAL
I. Internship proposed: Equity research, Portfolio management, live trading, and fundamental
and technical analysis at HDFC LIFE, New Delhi.
II. Description of internship in brief: I will be trained on topic like Mutual Funds, portfolio
management, learn technical and fundamental analysis on equity research, do live trading and
also sale one insurance policy. these are explained as follows :-

What is Mutual Fund?

Mutual Fund is formed when capital collected from different investors is invested in company
shares, stocks and bonds. Shared by thousands of investors, mutual fund is managed collectively
to earn the highest possible returns. And all mutual funds are registered under SEBI.

Mutual Funds are of 3 types-


 Equity
 Debt
 Balanced

What is Portfolio Management?

The art of selecting the right investment policy for the individuals in terms of minimum risk and
maximum return is called as portfolio management. Portfolio management refers to managing
an individual’s investments in form of bonds, shares, cash, mutual funds etc. so that he earns
maximum profits in a stipulated time frame.

What is Live Trading?

Live or online trading is basically a phenomena of buying and selling financial products through
an online trading platform. These platforms are normally provided by internet based brokers and
are available to every single person who wishes to invest money and earn returns from the
market. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, options, futures, and currencies can all be traded
online. It is also known as e-trading or self-directed investing.

What is Equity research?

Equity Research primarily means analyzing company's financials, perform ratio analysis,
forecast the financials (financial modeling) and explore scenarios with an objective of making
BUY/SELL stock investment recommendation. Equity Research analyst discuss their research
and analysis in their equity research reports.

Role of equity research-


 Equity Research plays a very critical role that fills the information gap between the
buyers and sellers of shares.

 Reason is that at all levels (individual or institutional) may not have the resources or the
capabilities to analyze every stocks.

 Additionally, full information is not provided by the management due to which further
in-efficiencies are created and stocks trade below or above the fair value.

 Equity Research analyst spend lot of time, energy and expertise to analyze stocks,
follow news, talking to the management and provide an estimate of stock valuations.

 Also, equity research tries to identify the value stocks out of the massive ocean of stocks
and help the buyers to generate profits.

III. Objective of the internship: Following points elucidate the objective of this report-
 Understanding portfolio management and implementing it by managing a customer’s
portfolio and his/her funds.

 Understanding live trading, maintaining index and implementing it in the real world

 Learning equity research on a daily basis by keeping the overall changes in the
company’s equity in mind. This will also help in portfolio management.

IV. Action plan:

The action plans which I will follow to achieve my objectives would be:

 Financial Analysis- Thoroughly studying the Annual Statement of the company and
other companies to analyze performance.
 Technical Analysis- In-depth analysis of types of charts, ratios, individual company and
industry comparison.
 Prospecting and Pitching- Engaging into lead generation and sales activities in order to
sell the insurance policy.
 Being Proactive- By following an outgoing attitude and accepting every challenge that
comes in my way.
 Follow a disciplinary code of conduct- This means by not taking the work lightly and
strive for learning in everything I do.
 Maintaining regularity– Not taking unnecessary leaves and being reliable and robust in
my working.
 Mixing well with the work environment- By mixing with the organizations work
environment I would be able to contribute my best towards the organizations goals and
objectives.
 Openness to exposure- By following this I would accept every work given to me and
will complete it with full dedication and perfection.

In this 3-month Internship program I will be sticking to the following schedule:

1st Month (February to March) – It will be an introductory phase where the major focus will be
to know the working of the organization and its values, understanding its products and services,
side by side I will focus on structuring my internship project report by getting an overview and
understanding the sector, trading & research completely.
2nd Month (March to April) – During this month I will be experiencing practical learning about
the capital markets, investing money, analyzing the market growth. Apart from it my focus will
be also on understanding the company’s insurance policies and generating leads to sell it.

3rd Month (April to May) – In the final month of the internship program, my focus will be on
strengthening of the concepts that I have learned in the preceding two months and testing my
understanding towards it followed by a complete review of it. Also, I will focus on completing
with my internship project report and coming out with a detailed summary and conclusion
