Dear Recipient:

My interest in social justice and social issues began when I was in elementary. I grew
up in a low-income neighborhood where violence occurred every day. Where I would also
see some of my childhood friends get affiliated with gang violence due to the lack of
resources we had in our community. Ever since then, I knew that I wanted to help youth
surrounded or affiliated with gang violence.

Getting my degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology will
allow me to help this population. Through the two years of studying for a Criminology and
Criminal Justice Degree, I have declared what I want to be. I believe becoming a Youth
Correctional Counselor and advocate for child abuse and neglect will help me understand
what needs to be solved within the community.

In addition to my education, my previous work experiences will help me build plenty of

relationships with the youth. Many youths affiliated with gang violence have difficulty talking
to someone about their emotions and traumas. Therefore, I believe building a relationship
with them is very important. Building a relationship with them makes them feel safe and
comfortable.

I hope my passion for social justice and social issues, along with my skills, have earned
me a few minutes of your time. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide any
further information.

I can be reached via email, mmemijegonzalez@unomaha.edu.

Sincerely,

PROJECT PROPOSAL

Maritza Memije Gonalez

The project proposal I have chosen is the professional and job market route. My plan

for the future is not only to have a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in

Psychology but also to be a co-founder of my brother's business in flipping houses.

After getting my degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in

Psychology is to become a Youth Correctional Counselor. However, before I become a

Youth Correctional Counselor, I want to be a volunteer for CASA, Court Appointed Special

Advocates for Children for Douglas County. By volunteering in that organization, I hope to

discover new skills that will help me when I do become one.

In addition to the job market route, I plan on getting my Real Estate License. Obtaining

my license will help me gain information to help my brother with his business of flipping

houses. It will also motivate me to start my own business.
