TRAINING PROPOSAL
TITLE:
STRESS MANAGEMENT: PREVENTING TEACHER BURNOUT/STRESS AMID THE PANDEMIC
BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:
Stress management is essential for good physical health, and it’s especially important
right now as our world addresses the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has had a major
effect on our lives. Many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful, overwhelming, and
cause strong emotions in adults and children. The pandemic also created new causes of job-
related stress that have displaced the ‘traditional’ main reason for workplace anxiety – ever-
increasing workloads, according to new research.
Workload appears to have been pushed aside, whilst other factors which were not
prominent or may not have existed before the pandemic now contribute significantly towards
molding job stress.
This School–based Learning Action Cell (SLAC) will provide an opportunity for teachers to
learn together on how to deal with stress/burnout amidst the pandemic. This 1-day workshop
explores the causes of such stress, and suggests general and specific stress management
strategies that educators can use every day. This will also serve to plan activities or programs
that will help teachers to relax and be healthy despite the effects of the pandemic in our mental
and physical health.
OBJECTIVES:
Identified the costs and benefits of dealing with stress
Defined what stress is and started to recognize the signs of stress
Recognized the legal obligation of the employer to reduce work-related stress
Reviewed the main work areas that can lead to stress and identified ways to address
work-related stress throughout the organization amidst the pandemic
Considered the critical role and skills of an effective manager of stress and drawn up their
