AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE

damage to your house or the lines that
lead to your house.
-Turn off water where it enters the
home. Do not flush toilets.
FIRE
-Have a family plan of action and
evacuation
-Fire needs fuel, air and heat to burn.
Take away one of these three things
and a fire will not burn.
-Determine where your family will
meet outside the home
-Practice with children what to do in
any emergency. Have earthquake and
fire drills. Have them memorize their
family name, address and phone
number. Encourage them to talk about
their fears.
Utilities Shut-Off
Gas:
-Turn this utility off first with the
valve outside your home next to the
meter. Ventilate your home.
Evacuate.
Electricity:
-Turn this utility off next. Turn
off fuses.
Water:
-Turn this utility off as soon as
possible. Turn off water where it
enters your home. Then turn off valve
usually in the front yard of homes that
will usually require a wrench.
