Nawruz is a holiday that is celebrated on 21 march. It is also the first day of spring. The word nawruz

(noo’rooz) means ‘’new day’’, and is celebrated as new years day in Iran, Afghanistan, Georgia,

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Northern Iraq. Nawruz is also celebrated by

Azerbeijani, Kurdish, Kyrgyz and Kazakh people.

For nawruz, people celebrate the coming of spring, and the beginning of life. Everybody goes outside and

waits for the coming of the 21st of march. People sing, dance, and put on fire shows all night long. Many

people believe that nawruz on the first day of spring is more important than the new years day

celebration in the middle of winter on january 1st.
