Of great importance for the establishment of the national identity of Ukrainians were folk customs, rituals, traditions of celebration, which were
an integral part of everyday life and became a means of preserving the Ukrainian identity. They reflect not only ethnic identity, but also
aesthetics, moral values, mentality, history.
Ivana Kupala
On the night of July 6-7, Ukrainians celebrate the holiday of Ivan Kupala.
The holiday of Ivan Kupala is one of the most ancient and dates back to pagan times. It
symbolizes the connection between man and nature and the transition to the summer cycle.
Celebration traditions:
Trinity Seven weeks after Easter, the holiday of blossoming nature - Green Sunday. In those days, the girls
decorated their homes and yards with weeds, wove wreaths, launched them, and honored mermaids and the dead.
The people believed that if they were betrothed to the Trinity and married at the
Intercession (October 14), then family life would be long and happy.
Holy Trinity Day is considered very important and joyful, so any work -
whether cleaning the house, washing or sewing, is prohibited.
TRADITIONAL UKRAINIAN CLOTHES: CHARACTERISTICS AND VARIETIES
Characteristic features of Ukrainian clothing:
However, there are a number of differences: for example, men's costumes are
characterized by strict geometric ornaments, which symbolized courage and
boldness, and Ukrainian women's clothing was decorated with elegant patterns
with intricate interweaving of lines. Children's clothes were embroidered with a
slightly simpler ornament.
MAIN VARIETIES OF UKRAINIAN FOLK CLOTHES
Male:
Shirt made of coarse cloth with embroidered collar or neckline.
Wide linen or dress trousers. By the way, some elements of the Ukrainian national costume differed in different regions.
Thus, men in the north and west of the country wore skinny pants like modern "pipes".

Female:
Shirt embroidered on the neck, cuffs, sleeves and bottom. She was much longer than a man. Depending on the purpose,
such embroidered shirts were made of expensive snow-white or cheap rough cloth. Young girls wore them without
outerwear, girded with a belt.
Four variants of the waist thing in which the shirt was tucked (we would call it a skirt):

clothes made of high-quality fabrics with exquisite decoration: blouses, shirts, dresses, skirts, pants and
jackets.
3.Ethnic clothing is a modern embodiment of the national clothing of Ukrainians. There are two
subcategories: cotton or linen clothing with hand or machine embroidery; knitwear, decorated with
ethnic elements - embroidery, ribbons, ribbons, prints.
Men's and women's embroidered shirts are today a festive outfit for the people of all over Ukraine. Most
of the shirts are produced in small batches and decorated with machine embroidery. Manufacturers are
constantly adapting to new trends in youth fashion, offering unusual styles and colors of embroideries.
That is why the modern Ukrainian costume is rather "traditions adapted to the present". However, there
are still craftsmen who embroider shirts in the traditional way for sale or to order. Such products are not
cheap, but their ornaments have a deep sacred meaning, so people use them as talismans.
