Supernatural Sunday

What Do You Want Me To Do For You

Jesus Christ is Lord!

Every day is a supernatural day, with Jesus!

Read the text: Matthew 20:29-34

THE CROWD
vs 29...a great multitude followed Jesus....

Jericho to Jerusalem
About 24 km (15 miles) distance, rough road, that would take about 8 hours walk

People must have followed Him in the crowd for different reasons..
- some people must have just gone along with the crowd part of the caravan going from
Jericho to Jerusalem, without knowing who He is
- some hoping to see His miracles, perhaps even to see if the miracles were real or just
setups
- some perhaps wanting to listen to what He had to say
- some perhaps convinced that Jesus was indeed who He said He was..

THE CRY OF THE BLIND MEN

vs 30 "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!"

Let's look at this carefully. What was the significance of the title they were using:
"O Lord, Son of David"

2 Samuel 7:12-13
David was promised that one of his descendants would rule as king forever. The Jews
looked forward to this Son of David as the coming Messiah.

For example, Jesus questioned the religious leaders:

Matthew 22:41-42
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 saying, "What do you think about the Christ (i.e. the Messiah) ? Whose Son is He?" They said to Him,
"The Son of David."

The Son of David was, therefore, a Messianic title.

Jesus was born in David's city, Bethlehem and was called the "Son of David" while he
was here on the earth.

"Son of David" was a recognition of Him being the Messiah, the Christ

By calling Him the Son of David, they were acknowledging Him to the Anointed One, the
Messiah, the Christ.

When Jesus began His ministry, He announced that He was the Anointed One.
He read from Isaiah 61.
Luke 4:18-19

Isaiah prophesied that the Anointing would remove burdens and destroy yokes (Isaiah
10:27) and this is exactly what Jesus demonstrated.

He cast out demons by the Spirit of God (Matthew 12:28)

He healed all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38)

Today, He is the Holy and Anointed One, the Risen and Exalted

vs 30 "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!"

mercy = compassion
Lord = Supreme in authority

Jesus had compassion on the people...

He was moved with compassion and healed the sick (Matthew 14:14)
He was moved with compassion and multiplied food for people (Matthew 15:32)
He was moved with compassion and healed a leper (Mark 1:41)
He was moved with compassion and taught people (Mark 6:34)
He still has compassion on people today.

As Messiah, He not only healed and delivered people from demonic works by His
anointing and out of compassion .... but He did the greatest work on the Cross, where
He died for our sins.

The Cross was the greatest display of His power and love.
(Share what Jesus did for us on the Cross)

The blind men recognized Jesus for who He really was and cried out "Have mercy on us,
O Lord, Son of David!"

Will you recognize Him for who He is, and call on His name?

Romans 10:13 for whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved

THE CROWD - THEIR OBJECTION

vs 31 "Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; "

The crowd tried to quiet these two blind men.

THE BLIND MEN - THEIR CONVICTION

vs 31 "..... but they cried out all the more, saying, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!"

What would you do when your calling out to the Lord faces opposition, delay, objection,
ridicule?
Do you give up, quit?
Or like the blind men, will you cry out all the more?

JESUS - HIS RESPONSE

vs 32 "So Jesus stood still..."
Wow! Think about this. Jesus stood still!
Something stopped Jesus in His tracks.
Something got His attention.

vs 32 "...and called them,..."

Jesus invited them.

JESUS - HIS QUESTION

vs 32 "...What do you want Me to do for you?"

Why did Jesus ask this question?

He already knew their condition and what they needed and still asked them this
question.

He wants you to spell out what you want from Him.

He wants you to express your faith and conviction that He is able and that He will do this
for you.

www.apcwo.org / contact@apcwo.org 3 All Peoples Church & World Outreach, Bangalore, India
He has not stopped asking this question.

THE BLIND MEN - THEIR REQUEST

vs 33 They said to Him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."

Their request was clear, specific, and confident.

They did not question His power or ability.
They did not question His willingness.

JESUS - THE MIRACLE

vs 34 "So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and
they followed Him."

Jesus had compassion. He still has compassion on us.

TODAY IS YOUR DAY FOR A MIRACLE

Tell Him what you want Him to do for you.

LIFE GROUP STUDY GUIDE

Sunday October 27, 2019

What Do You Want Me To Do For You

The is a simple guide for use in Life Group discussions. Our objective is to focus on the
application of the Sunday sermon - how each one is becoming a doer of the Word and building
their life on God's Holy Word. The Life Group meeting would normally last for 2 hours. Each Life
Group would have up to 12-15 people.

Preparation
To prepare for the Life Group meeting, you can listen to the Sermon Key Points (sermon
summary in five minutes) or the full length Sunday sermon. You can also review the Sunday
Sermon notes. All these are available in the "All Peoples Church Bangalore" mobile App or online
at apcwo.org/sermons . Pray for the Life Group meeting and invite the work and ministry of the
Holy Spirit.

Welcome
The Life Group meeting may commence with a time of prayer, worship and a fun activity.

LISTEN to God's Word

Read the following Scripture passages: Matthew 20:29-34

INVESTIGATE God's Word Together

Please discuss a few of these together, giving time for people to share their insights. We
encourage each one individually to make notes of their personal learning during the Group
discussion.

Review the incident of the two blind men receiving their miracle from Jesus. Take time to share,
encourage each other in faith and pray for one another's needs. Expect to see miracles happen in
your life group meeting.

If time permits, each one takes a few (3 minutes max) to share one or two key learning and how
they see themselves applying it into their specific life situations. Encourage each one to
participate and share.

FELLOWSHIP by sharing your life and spiritual journey

Each one takes a few (3 minutes max) to share anything from their walk with God, something
God has been teaching them, a testimony of answered prayer or a specific challenge that they
would like prayer for. Encourage each one to participate and share.

ENCOURAGE each other by praying and ministering to one another

www.apcwo.org / contact@apcwo.org 5 All Peoples Church & World Outreach, Bangalore, India
Get into small groups of two or three and take turns to thank God and pray for each other in the
light of what was learnt today. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Expect the gifts of the Holy Spirit to flow
bringing healing, releasing miracles, prophecy, etc.

Regroup and pray together for:

1, families to be protected and strengthened
2, a mighty outpouring of God's Holy Spirit on us as a church and through us to bless many
others in our city and nation. Nothing but a mighty work of God's Spirit can change our city and
nation.
3, for the BUILD TO IMPACT project - for God's hand to guide us through the land search and
acquisition process, and for finances to be more than enough to get this project done.

Close by thanking God together.
