DESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS

Activity 2

Problem: This data set contains the actual recorded cases of COVID-19 in the listed
countries.

Answer or perform the needed analysis using the JASP program or any software you are
comfortable with. Present your answer in tabular form with brief discussion of the
tabulated results. Upload your answers in the VLE.

1. What is the average number of recorded cases in each of the three periods? What
is your view on the trend? Would it likely to increase or decrease?

Minimum 0.000
Maximum 444.000

Recorded cases for February 2020

It can be construed that the trend will continue to increase.

Based on the data presented above, there is a significant increase in the number of
recorded cases of COVID 19 from January of 2020 to March 2020. Hence, there is a
higher probability that recorded cases will still increase after the period of March.

2. What is the average trend of recovery and death of affected individuals across
country/regions/places? What is the average percentage of recovery and death? Is the
chance of recovery higher than the average cases of death?

TREND OF THE AVERAGE RECOVERY AND DEATH ACROSS COUNTRY/

REGIONS/PLACES

TOTAL RECOVERED TOTAL DEATH

Valid 406 406
Mean 168.286 11.626
Minimum 0.000 0.000
Maximum 50318.000 3056.000

Based on the data, there is a higher chance for recovery as compared to the total average
death cases.

3. In your analysis, what additional data/factors/variables could have been added to make
this data warehouse more useful for health workers, policy makers, or any individuals
who want to offer assistance or any other intervention? What result/findings have you
anticipated if those factors were added?

Age can be added as a factor in the given data warehouse. According to many studies,
the risk for death and severe illness with COVID-19 is best predicted by age. Another
factor that can make the date more holistic is the existing, if any, medical conditions of
respondents, since, one of the reasons in making COVID-19 more serious is that they are
more likely to have underlying conditions, such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes,
and lung disease, and COVID-19 mortality is higher for those with underlying conditions
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Conronavirus Disease 2019 Response
Team, 2020).

Hence, adding those variables may give a much clearer and detailed report which can
be very beneficial in aiding our policy makers and health workers in combatting the said
disease or virus.
