01 IMPACT FINDER

Impact Finder®
ImpactFinder® is a system of
analysis and processing of sound
signals for the detection of impacts,
modification of the level of movement,
grain size of the mineral and power
prediction for the optimization in real
time of the grinding process in SAG
mills and ball mills.

Sound is a physical signal that carries a lot of information

about the properties of mill internal process. It is also easy
to sample without intervening into the grinding process.

The Technique consists in using industrial microphones to

acquire the sound, which is then run through a statistical
process and characterized; in other words, the sound is
translated into processing variables. In order to obtain
maximum efficacy with this technique, a Design of
Experiments process should be implemented, trough the
manipulation of influential variables.

Grinding can then be optimized by using sound signals

for real time estimates of variables such as fill level, load
angle, counts and classification of impacts, ensuring
operational availability and extending the operating life
of equipment, while obtaining the desired particle size,
increasing production, and maximizing energy efficiency.
