Oxygen Concentrators

Purpose: An oxygen concentrator is a medical device that gives you extra oxygen.

Evident Gas Law: Boyle’s Law

Mechanism: if a given amount of gas has a constant temperature, increasing its volume
decreases its pressure, and vice-versa. When you inhale, muscles increase the size of
your thoracic (chest) cavity and expand your lungs.

Incubator

Purpose:  an insulated enclosure in which temperature, humidity, and other

environmental conditions can be regulated at levels optimal for growth, hatching,
or reproduction.

Evident Gas law: Charles’ Law

Mechanism: the pressure will rise as the temperature increases so long as the volume
remains fixed. Then when the match goes out, the temperature decreases and the air
pressure decreases.

Sterilizers

Purpose: destroys all microorganisms on the surface of an article or in a fluid to

prevent disease transmission associated with the use of that item.

Evident Gas Law: Charles’ Law

Mechanism: if a quantity of gas is held at a constant pressure, there is a direct relationship

between its volume and the temperature

Purpose: to monitor an unborn baby, diagnose a condition, or guide a surgeon

during certain procedures.

Evident gas Law: Charles’ Law

Mechanism: Gas appears on ultrasound as a bright reflective surface with

shadowing that obscures the underlying anatomy, with either long path
reverberation artifacts
Anesthesia machine

Purpose: to deliver oxygen (O2) and anesthetic gases, remove carbon dioxide
(CO2) from the breathing system and provide controlled ventilation.

Evident gas law: Boyle’s Law

Mechanism:  used to describe the effects of altitude on gases in closed cavities

within the body, and to calculate the total intra-thoracic gas volume by body
plethysmography.
