Introduction

With an aggregate or increasing demand of welding for both

high production rates and high precision, for several decades

welding is more essentially important for repair and maintenance

of industrial machinery equipment, manufacturing and

constructional engineering activity and others (Rani, 2012).

Internationally, there are many innovation when it comes to

welding industry that been using an automated welding equipment

in terms of Robotics but these are only limited used for

industrial works where manual welding operation (Man power) are

still essentially important specifically building Infrastructures

and etc.

In the Philippines, regular or contractual labor employees are

exercising fair and just security in such us healthy work

environments where health and safety of manpower labor Pilipino

is needed, crucial and necessary not only before employment but

as well as during employment (DOLE, Department Order No. 198).

Being welder is not an easy work because there are several risks

that can possibly affect employee’s health condition by being

imparted of this kind of job due of excessive exposure of Fume

that strongly dangerous to inhale and directly contacted into

eyes.
Moreover, in society recognition as by being welders this becomes

a profession and uphold/uplifted were it was adopted and included

to TESDA (Technical Skill and Development Authority) short-term

course program. So far, this program was also included to the

Senior High School curriculum SWAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)

specifically at Camarines Sur National High School in Naga City.

Statement of the Problem

This study determines the possible risks of excessive

exposures in welding job operations and its effect to the SMAW

student of Camarines Sur National High School in Naga City and

its significant alternative remedies, this study answered the

following questions;

1. What are the possible risks and health hazards that will

be come upon by extreme exposures of the SMAW student in

welding performance tasks?

2. What are the conceivable or marginal remedies to treat

the negative effects on excessive exposures of the SMAW

student welders?

3. Is there a significance of correlation between the

effectiveness of the identified marginal remedies and the

negative effects and hazards of extreme welding

exposures?

4. What plan could be implemented to give more assistance

and health attention to the SMAW Student of Camarines Sur

National High School?

Significance of the Study

The effectiveness of remedies and significance to the

negative effects and hazards in extreme or excessive exposure of

student welders in school performance tasks is addressed in this

study. School Administration are must be aware of the importance

of this concern. It will be a big help for their supervisions

when it comes to the health concerns of the students.

School- They may use the data and findings that had been

compiling into this study. They would be recognize the possible

health hazard to those students who extremely exposed in welding

tasks and they would be aware of necessary methods and remedies

to provide, cure and circumvent the possible health hazards to

the students.

Students- They may be aware of the risks of excessive

exposures in performing their welding tasks and they will be more

self-assured to treat some minor hazard they will be encountered.

Other Researchers- Interested researchers may expand this

study if there are still things that not yet taken in this

research. They may duplicate some of their important matters in

this study and improve for the better outcome and purposes.

Assumptions

This study tries to identify its negative effects of

excessive exposures of welder students in performing their tasks

and the marginal remedies and its effectivity. The following are

the assumptions of the researcher:

1. That the Camarines Sur National High School have the

preference on the following: (a) welding Helmets (b)

respirator (c) gloves (d) goggles (e) Face Shield (f) Apron

(g) boots

2. That the harmful/mild health hazard has a substantial aid

effectiveness due to exposure in welding tasks performance

Hypothesis

This study was premised on the hypothesis hereby being that

School of Camarines Sur National High School who fully cognizant

the potential hazards and its negative effects of excessive

exposures of the student welders and to provide necessary remedy

and health assistance plan and also to more maximize their

potentials in the future.

Scope and Delimitation

This study covers the entire Shielded Metal Arc Welding

Grade 11 Student in Camarines Sur National High School Located at

Penafrancia Avenue, Naga City only. The respondents involved in

this study were the 46 Students, compose of forty-two (42) male

and four (4) female senior high SMAW students.

Conceptual Framework

The conceptual paradigm of this study is shown in figure No.

Theoretical Framework

Definition of Terms

Welding - is the process of joining together with two pieces of

metal so that bonding takes place at their original boundary

surfaces. When two parts to be joined are melted together, heat

or pressure or both is applied and with or without added metal

for formation of metallic bond.

Fumes - are a complex mixture of potentially toxic fumes and

noxious gases. Some of the frequently observed diseases resulting

from exposure to welding fumes and gases

Remedies- something that cures or relieves a disease or bodily

disorder; a healing medicine, application, or treatment.

Hazard- is something which could be dangerous to you,

your health or safety, or your plans or reputation.
