As we BSME student we are thankful that we have a subject in our curriculum called

Manufacturing and Industrial Plant Process (MIP). It has a big help not only in our schooling bat

also in our daily doings in life. Manufacturing and Industrial Plant Process (MIP) has a topic that

can widen our knowledge being a Mechanical Enginering student and hoping being a

Mechanical Engineer in present.

One of the topic in the syllabus is the Methods,Process and Equipment involving in

handling of solids this is the preview of the topic; Feeders and Storage silos,Conveyors and

Conveying System,Size Deduction of Solids,Seperation and Classification of Solids.

Conveyor system is a kind of mechanical apparatus that is commonly used in the

mining,automotive,manufacturing and many different industries. The main use of conveyor

system is that its the responsible for transporting heavy materials or bulky materials. It can also

lessen the man power and also lessen the risk of human injury or accident when transporting or

lifting heavy objects/materials from one place to another.

 Size reduction from the word itself reduction is the process of which the size of a solid

is made smaller compare to its original size or shape. Size reduction can also called grinding,

size reduction of solids has different types depending on how hard is your product want to be.

The types of size reduction is the jaw crushers, Gyratory crushers, Cone crushers and Compound

crushers.

DRYERS AND DRYING PROCESSES -Drying makes a material convenient for packing,

preserving, transporting etc. There are different types of Drying process namely. Sun drying, hot

air drying, contact drying, infared drying, freeze drying, fluidized drying and dielectrical drying.

SUN DRYING - from the word itself sundrying process is drying process by exposure to the sun.

It is the oldest solution. The commonly fruits or vegetables that are being process is the banana

to produced banana chips and many banana products. CONTACT DRYING - It’s a method

where the product is putting in with contact with heated walls. But however direct contact of the

product in the hot wall can lead to the denaturation of the dried products. FREEZE DRYING -

it’s a method that is often recommended for the drying of sensitive food products. Freeze drying

is relatively slow and much expensive. DIELECTRICAL DRYING - drying by microwave and

radio frequency is based on dielectrical technology. This solution is the most adapted for drying

heat sensitive in the food, industrial and medical field to preserve all of their properties.
METHODS,PROCESSSES AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED IN MANUFACTURING

A) CEMENT Substance used for construction that sets,hardens and adheres to other materials to

bind together. Cement is seldom used on its own,but rather to bind with sands and gravel.

B) STEEL Is an alloy of iron and carbon containing less than 2% carbon and 1% manganese and

small amounts of silicon,phosporus,sulphur and oxygen. Steel is the worlds most important

engineering and construction material.

C) GLASS Is another very common material in construction. Glass is primarily used for

windows,but also for indoor patitions,mirrors and many more.

D) PLASTIC RUBBER -used in manufacturing of a variety of products that we need in our daily

life. Both these compounds are primarily compound.

E) FOOD AND BEVERAGES -food and beverages product means all food and beverages

product of all types manufactured, processed labeled, held, packed or package by or for the

business.

F) ELECTRONICS AND SEMICONDUCTORS semi-conductors are employed in the

manufacture of various kinds of electronic devices, including diodes, transitions and integrated

circuit.
G) METALS Is a material that when freshly prepared, polished or fractured shows a lustrous

appearance and conducts electricity and heat relatively. Metals are typically malleable and

ductile.

PACKAGING PROCESS AND EQUIPMENT

- Before a product was going to be shipped it is important to know how to properly package your

products. It is equally important to choose the best products and equipments for packaging.

There are 5 steps to ensure your product is packaged properly.

ORGANIZE

- It may seems obvious but organizing a packaging space can make a big difference. Ideally,the

area should have storage space to keep a large variety of materials in workspace.

MEASURE

- before selecting the box your product fit in before shipping,it is a good idea to measure your

product and also the size where to place it.

SELECT

- now that you have measured your products. It is time to select the rightbox. Designed to be

strong and durable,they are one of the most common safest packaging material.

PROTECT
- now it is time to protect your product. If you are unsure if you should be using bubble

wrap,instapak foam packaging,an airbag or inflation system,ask for assistance or there are search

engines to search for what is the best thing to use.

SEAL- Now that your product is properly protected and fitted into the proper size box,it is time

to seal the box. Do not seal the box with cellophane or duct tape. Instead look for proper

packaging tapes and adhesives. After all that steps your product is ready to be ship.
