SUMMARY OF THE REPORT

PROCESS SELECTION, FACILITY LAYOUT & STRATEGIC CAPACITY

PLANNING
Summary:

The topic is all about Process Selection Facility Layout and Strategic Capacity
Planning. The reporters discussed what productive services redesign does which
refers to the perspective of buyers where they have a basis which are the cost and the
quality. It is mentioned that redesign or designing are the basis which are the
economic, the demand, warranty and cost, social and demographics, aging baby
boomers, population shifts, political liability, and so on. It is about the products or
things that already had designs in the past and are being redesigned in the present.
The discussants tackled possible questions on the buyer's point of view. Aside from
that, they have discussed the process selection that answers how much variety and
products or services the system will need to handle, what degree of equipment
flexibility will be needed and what is the expected volume of the output. The process
types are also included in the report. In the aspect of technology, the discussants
have tackled different processes and use of technology. Meanwhile, another aspect of
the topic was tackled by another discussant. It is about designing process layout
which is all about the main positions of functional work centers that are determined
by it. Looking at the video presentation, you can see in figure 6.10 that workers must
be assigned to different locations. And next to that is the measure of effectiveness, six
information requirements, minimizing transportation costs of distance which can be
seen in table 6.5, 6.6 and figure 6.11. Lastly is closeness rating. The discussion
continues with the strategic capacity planning which is the goal to arrive at this point
where production capabilities and demand are optimally balanced; Process strategy
which is the pattern of decisions made in managing processes, Strategic resource
organization, Design product layout and Three basic types of layout which are
product, process and fixed position. Furthermore, Process Facility Layout that can be
explained through two different general definitions which are Design capacity and
Effective capacity, was tackled by the discussants. Some topics are about
Determinants of Effective Capacity, Strategy Formulation and Forecasting Capacity
Requirements. They also have discussed Additional challenges of planning service
capacity, Developing capacity strategies, Constraint Management and its categories
and lastly are the topics that are all about Evaluating alternatives, Cost volume
analysis, how to rearrange terms and the Methods of financial analysis.

2. The relevance of the topic to our course is the process that ensures that an
adequate number of qualified persons will apply for vacant positions in
organizations. The layout and design of a facility is a crucial part of an organization's
or administration's overall operations, both in terms of increasing the efficiency of
the process and serving the demands of personnel. The primary goal of layout is to
ensure that work, materials, and information flow smoothly through a system. As a
result, capacity planning is critical for an organization or administrations since it
ensures higher security in process execution and allows for a more thorough
production plan based on the team's capacity and what can be done to boost it.
3. Process Selection, Facility Layout, and Strategic Capacity Planning are the main
topics of discussion. The reporters examined what productive services redesign
entails, which pertains to the buyer's perspective, which is based on cost and quality.
I have learned about potential questions from the buyer's perspective. Aside from
that, they've talked about process selection, which involves determining how much
diversity and products or services the system will have to handle, how much
equipment flexibility would be required, and what the expected output volume will
be and so on.
