3.15 FINANCIAL / BUDGETING

All online businesses need to comply with the Malaysian Consumer Protection (Electronic Trade
Transactions) Regulations 2012. This includes businesses that sell products through social
networking sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram. Therefore we had
registered our business with Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) under Sole
Proprietorship policy. Also, in setting up an online tuition class business, the amount or cost is
lower than the private home tutorial and will not depend on the approach and scale you want to
undertake. Fee such as renting a place, transportation fee, teaching materials and etc would not
become liability for online tuition class business.

This is what it would cost us in Malaysia for starting an online tuition class business;
 Registration fee of business in Malaysia with Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM)
will cost – RM60.
 Additional Expenditure such as Business cards, Signage, Adverts and Promotions will
cost – RM500.
 Salary for each tutor – RM10/class
 Commission for each introducer – RM10/students
 Brochure – RM50
 Teaching material – RM3/students
 Utilities (including phone and Internet) – RM250

11
3.16 CONCLUSION

“Stay home, stay safe”, this is the most familiar quote we had heard during this pandemic
COVID-19. However, the schooling may stop, the learning must not. For the first time, teachers
and students are experiencing online learning, which brings many challenges but also offer many
opportunities to us. The demand for online class lead us to prompt the starting of Jenny Online
Tuition Class to ensure continuity and quality of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus,
we see the potential for our product to penetrate into the market and make the goal of our
business into reality.

The best part about starting an online business in Malaysia is we don’t need much capital
to get started. While we will need at least RM10,000 a month (rental, utilities, employees) to
start a local brick and mortar business, we can start an online business today for not over
RM100. Starting an online business can be challenging but has full potential for development as
the e-commerce sector provides a wide range of possibilities for all entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

By preparing this business plan, we hope it will give spirit and encouragement to us and
others who are interested in opening a business via online platform.
