1. The first exercise is a vocabulary game, and it should be timed if the students are advanced level.

Put students in two groups or pairs. Each group will receive half of the cards from Fast definitions
worksheet. Choose carefully, so as each group to have some easy cards and some hard cards to
define.

Next step is up to you, but I would set a time limit per card, for instance 2-3 minutes. Each student
from each group or pair has 2-3 minutes to define all the words, or as many words as he can, to their
group and get points for every word their team guesses. If they use part of the word they need to
define, they lose the point (for example Niagara Falls; they cannot say Falls).

2. In the next activity, students should be placed in small groups or pairs and work together to create
a story about their adventure in one country. The country will be assigned randomly, from the cards
below. You have many options here: you can make competitions, as to which team creates the most
interesting, fun or even horror story; you could include specific vocabulary that you want your
students to use or you can ask them include about specific things such as to talk about wonderful
places, include a dangerous situation or an adventure, etc.

Countries:

RUSSIA NORTH KOREA CANADA

BRAZIL JAMAICA EGYPT

BANGLADESH MOZAMBIQUE IVORY COAST

MEXICO TUVALU

HONDURAS SAUDI ARABIA KENIA

3. Students should present their adventure or trip and should try to convince the other team that
their country is the best.
Role play:
You all work for a reputable TV show and magazine about travel and every month you make a
special edition about a country which deserves a special place as tourist destination. The show will
encourage people to visit a certain part of the world, will give useful tips and, of course, you will
have to travel there to film and document everything. Now you have several options to discuss, but
only one can be the chosen one. State your point of view using expressions from the box below and
feel free to add other facts to the information on the cards.

Stating an opinion I reckon/ suppose …

As far as I´m concerned …

If you ask me … Disagreeing

The way I see it … I beg to differ. Partially agreeing

After giving this matter That´s not always the case. I agree up to a point but …
some thought …
No way! That may be true, but …
I´m entirely convinced that
It´s out of the question. I see your point, but …

I cannot share this view. It sounds interesting, but …
To my way of thinking …

Antarctica – it is definitely not for everyone, but it should be a destination on the bucket list of every
adventurous tourist, who would see new things, explore new places and push themselves to the
limit. An incredible thing about this travel destination is the wildlife, so unique and special, together
with the spectacular landscapes.

Role 2

Gyeongju, South Korea – it is the oldest city in Korea, which used to be the capital of Silla Dynasty. It
dates back to 700 AD and now it´s a peaceful city filled with stunning UNESCO sites. There are lots of
temples, rock carved statues, artefacts, pagodas, and a national park that would catch your eye and
provide a look into the fantastic history of the place.

Role 3

Ile de Re, France - is a charming, laidback island, about 14 km from La Rochelle in western France.
Although it is geographically small, it is totally gorgeous. It has an impressive 3km bridge and lovely
villages with cobbled winding streets. The beaches are divine, they are long, sandy beauties, backed
by grass-covered dunes.
Role 4

South Island, New Zealand - is home to some truly incredible nature. It’s home to Mount Cook,
Milford Sound, stunning glacial lakes and more! One of the highlights of any trip to New Zealand’s
South Island is a visit to the iconic Milford Sound. The trip culminates with a cruise through the Fiord
itself to see spectacular peaks, wild rainforest, and more powerful waterfalls. This should be on the
bucket list of any nature lover and adventure seeker.

Role 5

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile - this national park is arguably the best in all of Patagonia. The
scenery is stunning, with the dramatic peaks and bright blue lakes. And travellers can not miss out
on the chance to walk on Grey Glacier or hike to Cuernos del Paine. It is a dream come true of every
hiker and adventurer.

Role 6

Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania – for anyone who dreams of an African Safari, this is the ultimate
bucket list destination. The crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Also, it is home to a
diverse range of wild African animals including rhinoceroses, elephants, leopards, zebras, buffalo,
and wildebeests. The area is also the home to the highest density of lions in Africa.
