𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐲

I enjoy travelling solo. So far, I have visited solo two

places. First, I went to New Zealand. Every city and town I
visited there had its own information centre. The friendly
staff helped me find affordable accommodation and
book tickets for transportation and activities such as
mountain biking, bungee jumping and white-water rafting.
My second destination was Japan. Getting from one
place to another was easy in the Land of the Rising Sun. I
bought a bullet train pass so I could get off and on again
at various towns. The trains were clean, comfortable and
safe to travel on.
I enjoy travelling alone because I get to follow my
own schedule. I can go where I want to and decide how
long I want to spend there. I can pick the activities I want
to do too. I also get to meet the locals. In addition, some
locals may go the extra mile to give me information since
I am a solo traveller.
Before I went on my solo travels, I did a lot of
research about being safe. I think one of the most
important things to remember is to trust your instinct. If
you feel something is not right, do no do it. This can
range from accommodation or travelling in taxis. Another
useful tip is to carry identification and keep it in more
than one place. One more tip is to always go to open and
public areas. It is much safer.
I remember meeting a fellow solo traveller. She
immediately knew I was travelling alone from the way I
walked. I was surprised! Then, she gave me two pieces of
advice which I always share with others. First, always
walk with a purpose and display confidence. If you are
walking around aimlessly or with your face glued to your
guidebook, people will know you are a tourist and that
you are travelling alone. Second, do not tell anyone you
are travelling alone. If you want to ask for directions to a
famous landmark, add that you are meeting a friend
there.
Just before you go on your trip, do not forget to leave
a copy of your travel itinerary with a family member or a
friend. While you are travelling, make time to call, text or
email them to give them updates on your location and
well-being.
Besides that, you can stay safe by following these
tips. Do an extensive research and planning before you
travel. I find planning for a trip is as much fun as
travelling. Therefore, I spend a lot of time planning and
researching about the risks involved when travelling to a
certain destination. I also find out about all the
documents I need to visit a certain country or to enter a
place of interest. Second, do not arrive at a new
destination after dark since you will find it hard to look
for accommodation. Finally, do not wear expensive or
flashy jewellery. You want to blend into the crowd and not
attract the attention of pickpockets and thieves.
