Journal Week 9

Our topic for this week was Spring Break safety since the break is coming up next

week and students are excited to get a break from schoolwork and have fun with their friends.

When I came to the office on Monday, Ashley and I started packing spring break goodie

bags, which contained an outdoor kit (sunscreen, insect repellant, hand sanitizer), a towel,

condoms, a frisbee, a koozie, and information flyers on how to stay safe during spring break.

In total, we packed 141 bags. Rachel also told us that she wanted us to finish birthday cards

until the end of the summer, so we went ahead and worked on addressing and stamping more.

At night I worked at the climbing wall which was fun because it was a little busier compared

to the past few weeks.

On Tuesday, we met with Rachel again and planned the conference. Ashley and I also

signed up for individual conference sessions and we came up with a little schedule and things

to do in Tallahassee if we had some free time. Afterwards, we decided to start handing out

the goodie bags at the Wellness Center. In about two hours we handed out 50 bags and

received great feedback from students. When I worked at the climbing wall that night it

unfortunately was a slow night again. Therefore, I decided to complete my third and last

belay training and now am belay certified and ready to help even more.

On Wednesday, we tabled at the library per usual from 10am-1pm and handed out all

of the goodie bags we had left and even more items that we had laid out once we ran out of

bags. We counted 109 students during the three hours, adding up to a total of 160 students

that we reached this week. We’re super excited about this since it’s the most students we’ve

ever had for a week. I worked at the climbing wall again that night and fortunately, it was a

little busier again.

Thursday was my last day this week since I was leaving for a tennis tournament in

Pensacola Friday morning. The day went pretty slow as Rachel didn’t have any new work for

us and the things we need to do are due in three weeks which gives me a lot of time to work

on them even after Spring Break. In the afternoon we had the Sex Ed Fest from 4-6pm in

collaboration with the Women’s Center on front campus. We had a plinko game for students

to play and a brochure with information on healthy sexual behaviors. In total, we counted 53

students stopping at our table.
