Medical records are increasingly kept in electronic form. The existence of large medical
databases raises new questions about privacy and control over that information. When
records exist in a form that can easily be shared with others, there are legitimate privacy
concerns.
This paper also presents recent techniques of privacy preserving in big data like hiding a
needle in a haystack, identity based anonymization, differential privacy, privacy
preserving big data publishing and fast anonymization of big data streams
This paper refers to privacy and security aspects of healthcare in big data
HYPOTHESIS
✓ This paper argues that the fear regarding healthcare data security is not properly a privacy
issue, but rather concerns the viability of social norms that govern the doctor-patient
relationship and the use of medical information that is obtained within that relationship.
✓ There can be no balance between protecting an individual’s medical information from
disclosure that might cause harm to the individual while at the same time improving the
quality of medical care and of medical research.
✓ The goal of this paper is to provide a major review of the privacy preservation mechanisms
in big data and present the challenges for existing mechanisms.
