1.0 INTRODUCTION

The term iQ-PSS stands for Indeks Kualiti Pusat Sumber Sekolah (Quality Index of
School Resource Centre). IQ also stands for intelligence quotient, a number generated from
standardized tests to determine intellect, it's natural to use the acronym to describe an SRC's
intelligence. The iQ-PSS is a tool for assessing an SRC's quality or performance. Due to the
fact that it is nearly difficult for STEDs and TACs officers to visit each school due to a variety
of factors such as expense, time, and location, iQ-PSS can aid in establishing priority services
for SRCs.

Based on the concept of management information system, iQ-PSS is an invention to maximize

the management of the Educational Resources Centre network, which covers schools, districts,
states, and national levels (MIS).

A management information system (MIS) is a designed system for gathering, processing,

storing, and distributing data in the form of information required to carry out management tasks,
in this example, the execution of SRCs.

1
2.0 FIVE MAIN FOCUS AREAS IN SRC.
2.1 PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT, AND MATERIALS FACILITIES

A school library is separate from the main building in the school and has three floors
each floor has the main room. The first floor has a large space for a reading room, study room,
research room. The first main floor is full of stack area for the different types of documents and
printed and non-printed books for students and teacher’s references with a number of
comfortable furniture. Other than that, the first main floor also has been separated with
educational and curriculum materials. The school librarian teacher has provided the circulation
desk on the first floor, so if the student has something to ask or wants to borrow the books, they
can ask the librarian teacher to help.

The second floor is focused on educational technology. On this floor, the teacher-
librarian will provide the computer, laptop, e-learning tools for students and teachers to use for
research. The school resources centre has been improving to create a modern library in these
areas. A large number of electronic resources have been provided to the school for online
databases, online learning, and the increasing number of audio-visual materials. The school also
provides an internet connection, so the students and teachers can access using school internet.

The last or the third floor is for meeting rooms or seminar rooms. This floor is special
for teachers if they want to hold a meeting. Students also can use this room but they have to
book early if they want to use the meeting rooms. The third floor also has a huge social room,
where a student can talk, play games or do the sharing with other students.

They can find a lot of materials in this library because the librarian teacher provides a
lot of materials to read in SRC for example newspapers, magazines, non-fiction, and fiction
materials. Other than that, students also can find the past year’s questions in this library.

2
2.2 SRC MANAGEMENT.

The teacher-librarian will plan and manage the school resource centre annual budget
together with the school curriculum committee. With the help of the principal, school resource
centre personnel, teachers, and students plan and implement policies and annual programmes
for the school resource centre. They also will provide reports and analyses on the establishment,
management, and financial programmes for school resource centres. So that they can provide
the new material for the student. The teacher will provide reports and analyses on the
establishment, management, and financial programmes for school resource centres.

The teacher will arrange the budget and will make sure the need of the library. There is
some component that includes in the budget plan, the number of new resources for printed and
non-printed materials and the cost of technology equipment. Teacher-librarian also have to get
comprehensive training activities to assist them in managing SRC.

The librarian's assistant reports to them and assists them in their duties. This role requires
clerical and digital abilities. The assistant must have some past library experience. If not, the
library should be able to offer it. Routine functions, shelving, lending, returning, and processing
library material are only a few of the responsibilities of the position. Professionally trained and
qualified school librarians should have additional training in educational theory and learning
technique to ensure that all school library personnel are aware of the policy, responsibilities,
and duties associated with this position.

This SRC will be operating during office hours so the student can spend time at the
library when the school hours end. They can study, do homework or read a book in the library.

3
2.3 SRC USAGE.

Teacher-librarian will teach the student how to use or find the material using the
computer. Students can use the library if they want to do a group project, the library has a lot of
reading materials. The number of visitors in the library has been increased when the librarian
teacher start to promote and do lucky draws to the students. For example, a student who visits
the library the most will get a special gift from the teacher.

Every year, the librarian teacher will select three people who visit the SRC the most so
that will increase the user percentage. Other than that, do the circulation service to the student.
Circulation service is one of the best facilities that the most student like because not all student
can stay at school to read the book. So the can borrow the book to read it at home

4
2.4 MANAGEMENT OF NILAM READING PROGRAM.

NILAM program is very important to each school because they can develop a passion
of reading in students. Other than that, the NILAM program also can improve students’ grades
in exams. The program started in the early morning and was completed before the assembly
begins.

This program is set to finish at the end of November. Students who have proven
engagement to the program throughout their school years are offered several sorts of rewards
and recognition. Students will get certificates and RM300 cash as a reward if they have a
qualification to be the winner.

During this program, students were able to create their own list of new terms based on
the novels they read. The phrase list has been really helpful to the students in providing further
knowledge in their reading.

5
2.5 SRC IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS.

NILAM program gives a big impact on school quality, especially to the students.
Because of this NILAM program majorities students can get good grades in exams. This
program help student to learn and read more to generate qualified students. Next, students can
do workshops with excel and PowerPoint

Next, the NILAM program can improve dictionary browsing skills. Most students have
so far been successful in creating their own personal vocabulary list. They learned new terms
as a result of the stories they read. If kids don't understand a term in the book, they will look it
up in a dictionary and add it to their vocabulary list. While creating their own vocabulary books,
students understand how to share them with their peers. This also improves and teaches students'
ability to look up words or meanings in dictionaries.

3.0 RECOMMENDATION

The iQ-PSS, as a measure of SRC standards, is just the beginning, not the end, of the
road to SRC greatness. It has such a large influence that it may be used to make decisions on
the growth of SRCs. However, in order for the star-ranking system that provide the desired
outcomes, it is necessary that all departments work together to ensure the success of the iQ-PSS
implementation.

Since the major goal of this system is to support their SRCs in the short-term or long-
term planning, teacher-librarians should be sincere in providing information about their specific
SRCs. Most instructors also are the experts in the social programming of ICT through Smart
School idea, as well as the development of study skills and life-long learning, school
administrators should assist their individual teacher-librarians.

7
4.0 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I believe iQ-PSS is very important to each school especially the NILAM
program is an excellent way to establish and maintain a reading habit in young children.
Reading would provide students with fresh information while also organically fostering
vocabulary development. Based on the idea of a management information system, iQ-PSS is an
invention to enhance the management of the Educational Resource Centre network, which
covers schools, districts, states, and national levels.

In embracing the future School Resource Centres, iQ-PSS has opened up new horizons.
SRCs may be linked together all throughout the nation using the same idea as iQ-PSS, and their
educational materials can be examined, accessed, and shared among instructors and students at
anytime, anywhere.
