A. HOW IS THE CONSTITUTION THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF ALL LEGISLATION?


Ans- The constitution is the primary source of all legislation. Constitution is not only a set of
laws, but it also outlines the process of making new laws to the legislature.

B. WHAT ARE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF INCLUDING


THEM IN THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION?
Ans- To guard against the misuse of power by the state, the constitution has guaranteed the
people certain rights.  These rights are known as ‘Fundamental Rights’.
These rights are included in the constitution in order to ensure peace and harmony among the
citizens.

C. WHY IS DISSENT IMPORTANT FOR DEMOCRACY? SUBSTITUTE YOUR ANSWER


WITH SOME EXAMPLES.

Ans- Dissent means Disagreement in opinion. People express their dissent through


procession or rallies, or sitting on fast against some laws which may be violating freedom. 
Example- Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi during the colonial period and anti- liquor
campaign launched in 1991 in Andra Pradesh. 

D. ENUMERATE THE BASIC OUTLINE OF VARIOUS LAWS THAT HAVE BEEN


BROUGHT INTO EFFECT TO CURB THE PRACTICE OF DOWRY IN INDIA.

Ans- Legislative acts against the practice of dowry in India are: 


1. The payment of dowry was prohibited by the passing of the DOWRY PROHIBITION
ACT, 1961. 
2. The domestic violence act of 2005 was passed to protect women against any harassment
by her husband or in-laws. 

E. WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ANTI-LIQUOR CAMPAIGN OF 1991, IN


ANDHRA PRADESH?
Ans- Anti-liquor campaign was started by Rosamma resisting a local arrack contractor from
unloading liquor in her village in April 1991. Subsequently, she organised the women and
led protests which forced the arrack traders to leave the area. As a result of this campaign, a
statewide ban was imposed on the sale of alcohol in 1995.
