ACTIVITY

Hewlett-Packard (HP) Company

1. What is/are the sustainable business practice/s of HP based on the given case?

 The sustainable business practice of HP based on the given case that I find mostly remarkable is

their effort to ensure that they don’t cause any more harm to the planet regardless of their need

of natural resources to produce. It is crucial to consider the environment anytime possible while

providing a high innovation technology for a much better global progress. Making lives of people

better and easier without compromising our Mother Earth. People should avoid abusing natural

resources for mass technology production as they play a vital part of our Mother Nature, and as

they are crucial to life and our environment.

2. What pillar/s of sustainability is/are being addressed by HP’s business practice/s?

 The pillar of sustainability that HP's business practices are addressing is the Pillar of the

Environment. This is due to the fact that their business methods entail activities and aims

centered on the environment, such as lowering carbon footprints and consumption of water HP

is essentially looking into their impact on the environment as a whole. Factories, resources,

gases, and chemicals are all part of a technical corporation involved. There is a lot of work that

goes into making, delivering, and using HP goods and solutions. A significant demand for natural

resources that has an impact on the environment and as a result, the atmosphere and, as a

result, humans are affected. As a result, HP is able to maintain their position. While using said

resources as crucial inputs, they are responsible and accountable make it a point to "give back"

in their own way by revealing their footprints and seeking to help others. To reduce the size of

their factory gas emissions and water consumptions. So, it is nice to see that HP gives
recognition to the effects of manufacturing goods to the environment and that they incorporate

their goals and ideals in their operations and practices.

3. What function/s of corporate governance is/are present in the case study?

 This scenario depicts one of the representative duties of corporate governance. Government

Regulation since the Hewlett Packard (HP) Company, there have been concerns. We pick

corporate governance-related in government legislation, and the (Hp) company has the board

suspected eavesdropping scandal blew out. The other is the ethical treatment of employees,

such as sexual harassment and even spying on a corporation, which might drive any person to

quit.

And in 2010, Hewlett Packard (Hp) confronted a government policy by regular finance and

management of hazardous materials because there are other concerns a company are a

resignation for no reason cause of rapid and overwhelming anger. Still, on November 1, 2015,

the company improved its organization by splitting into two publicly traded companies to

separate the slow PC and printer business from the potentially fast-growing cloud technology

and cyber security business; however, Hewlett Packard (Hp) wants to ensure safe environmental

practices and better handling of hazardous materials.

4. How will HP resolve its given organizational problem based on the functions of corporate

governance?

 Hewlett-Packard Company faced numerous of struggles in their organization that puts them into

critical state that almost made them exit the IT business industry. It might be because of the fact

that they violate some government laws, and didn't practice the standard procedures and

regulations of the company's regulation. These kinds of lapses can always put their company at
certain risk. The first problem the company has encountered is Patricia Dunn and CEO Mark

Hurd to initiate an investigation of fellow board members, none of these will happen if they sit

down and talk, understand to each other and solve the problem. In order to make a good team

you must communicate effectively at all times and they must conduct their meetings more

often. The next CEO, Hurd was accused of sexual harassment with an HP marketing consultant;

He clearly violated the government regulation about ethical treatment of workers. All staff

specially the CEO should be responsible enough to abide the rules and regulations of the

company and the government. Third misfortune of the company is their new CEO Apotheker’s

move to push forward the HP Touchpad tablet was a commercial failure at the same time that

HP phones were taking a beating in the market. This has failed because of the lack of the risk

assessment of the product. fortunately, The company had innovated make made their company

environment friendly with its goal to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% in

2020, which is an amazing step to regain the company's reputation. Following rules and

regulations help employees understand what is expected of them and what will happen if they

violate the rules. And by these people that work together will certainly achieve their goals as a

team.
