 Distribute What’s the Difference? Handout and Opposing Viewpoints Tutorial Handout.
 Present the Introduction to Library Databases Presentation on the SMARTBoard.
o Presentation walks the students through:
 The process of finding and logging into the Opposing Viewpoints database
 Searching topics via “Browse Issues” or the search bar
 Boolean operators
 Features on the topics page
 Content types
 Choosing a source
 Citation tool
 Accessibility tools
 Downloading articles into Google Drive
o Guiding questions during presentation:
 Where do you look for information?
 Why do you look in those places?
 What do you know about library databases?

 Encourage students to follow along on their computers


 Have students partner up and distribute the Navigating the Database Answer Sheet and
explain the Navigating the Database Digital Breakout located in Google Classroom.
 Students will spend about 10min completing the activity.
 Go over the answers and how they were found.

Differentiation/Planned Support/DEI Principals

 Colored handouts, which are provided for review, are also available digitally in their Google
Classroom.
 Includes multiple modes of direct instruction; class instruction, visuals, and hands-on activity,
to accommodate different learning styles.

Informal Assessment

To assess students’ ability to navigate the Opposing Viewpoints database, students will successfully
complete the Navigating the Database Escape Room using Google forms.
