“sounds” and determine whether
sounds were produced and if the
materials were used in creative
novel ways.

create sounds with the given
materials while also utilizing these
materials in non-traditional ways,
then the class will be considered
proficient.

Academic Language:
-the students may speak single words or
even hum or sing sounds and some familiar
words.
-words to introduce may include instrument,
sound, loud, quiet, and sing.
Procedural steps:
- lay out household materials for the
students to utilize (drinking straws,
plastic food bowls, tissue boxes, food
containers, etc.)
- Work with the students to model
using one material to make noise.
Encourage the children to try the
same.
- Note whether the students are using
the familiar activities in the typical
way, or a new creative way to make
sound (i.e. are they pretending to eat
out of the bowl, or are they tapping it
to make noise?).
- When the students begin making
consistent noise, record the students
for assessment.
