Standards in 2 Domains: 1. Science Inquiry and Application (Record observations using words,
pictures, charts, graphs, etc. 2. Listening and Speaking (Use drawing or other visual to add details to
verbal descriptions).

Instructional objectives: list 2observable/measurable objectives for this lesson. Use precise language w/ action verbs.
The student will be able to:
1. The students will be able to use charts and graphs to measure the frequency of various modes of
transportation in their area through their observations.

2. The students will be able to work with peers to identify different forms of transportation with peers
in a friendly way and contributing at least five tallies to the group’s chart.

Experiences: Describe authentic (real life, hands-on not representational) materials and enticing/ creative experiences in
which children are actively engaged. Safety should be addressed if warranted.

 During group time the teacher will read a book to the students during group time about different
modes of transportation. This will help promote students to start thinking about different modes
of transportation.
 Once students are outside on the playground, the teacher might help the students with their
investigation by providing some promote of asking the students to look at a cool car that is on
the road outside the fence.
 Once students looking outside the fence looking at the cars and other modes of transportation
that are present.
 This can help the students start thinking about the different forms of transportation that they see
and that is around them.
 The next day the teacher will provide students will a table for a section for students to write
down different forms of transportation and another section for the students to tally how many of
that transportation they saw while outside in the playground (cars on the street, bike riders,
planes in the sky, buses on the street).
 After students come back inside from the playground area the class will come together as a
whole class and the students will share the different forms of transportation they saw and how
many of that one form of transportation they tallied.

Evidence of student learning:

The evidence that I will collect that show that students are learning is all the data sheets that they have
created of the different modes of transportation they have witnessed.
