Skittles Project
Part I: Skittles Project consisted in purchasing a 2.17 ounce of Skittles. The skittles
were separated by color and counted individually by colored grouping. A graph was
then created to represent the proportion of skittles found inside the candy bag.
After the relative frequency was calculated with the most common and least
common colored skittles. Using the relative frequency, a simulation was tested by
10,000 trials with the Rossman Chance app.
A. Purchase a 2.17-ounce bag of Original Skittles and count the number of candies of
each color in the bag. Also, give the total number of candies in the bag.
Red: 15
Orange: 8
Yellow: 16
Green: 10
Purple: 11
Total: 60
B. Bar graph was created to represent the number of skittles and the amount of
colored skittles that were inside the bag.

The most common color is yellow and the least common color inside the bag
is orange.
3. Conjecture the number of Skittles of the most common color if you had a
bag of 5,000 total Skittles.
The total amount of yellow skittles is sixteen divided by the total amount of
skittles. With it the frequency (0.27) it was multiplied by 5,000 equaling an
estimated number of yellow skittles of 1350.
Yes, the skittles were placed into categories by color and divided into separate
groups. This would be an example of stratified random sampling. Where the
population is divided into strata and each sample has an equal chance at being
selected.
E. Carry out a simulation for red Skittles with 10,000 trials to test of these hypotheses:

Based on the p-value and α= 0.05, we would fail to reject the null hypothesis. There is
insufficient evidence that the proportions of red skittles is different than 0.20.
