“Very good, what are the four “Union, intersection, complement, and
basic set operations?” difference of two or more sets.”

“Very Good again, give me an “If there is a two-group sir with same
example of equal sets.” content or member it is an equal set.
Example sir in group 1 there are

considered as an equal set.”

“Exactly. Okay I think we are

ready for our next lesson for
today.”

e. Motivation
“Before we start the lesson,
let’s have an activity. I will
write a number line on the
board with a few missing
numbers with a zero at the (The students are listening to the

number in the left and in the
right of number line to guide
you. Write the missing number
on a piece of shit of paper then
after that I will call an
individual to fell the missing
numbers.”

(Once all of the numbers are

labeled on the number line,
plot a point on the number line
(e.g., 3). Ask a
student to come up and show
the opposite of that number on
the number line (e.g., “Show
the opposite
of 3 on the number line. Put a
point there.”).)

“Good job class! Now we begin

our lesson.”
“What did you notice in the
situation I gave? It is about
what?”
“The game that you play have
a connection on our lesson
today."
f. Presentation of the lesson
“Our topic for today is about
the absolute value of a number
and at the end of the lesson
you will be able to:
a. Define the absolute value of
a number;

instruction and follow the
instruction carefully. Let us see
how much you know about the
absolute value of a number.” “Yes sir.”
“After you done, post it on the
board and explain your works.”
“You have 5 minutes to finish
your work.”
“Am I clear?” D.15

b. Analysis
“Now let us analyze your work, “Letter D sir, because it’s negative sir.”
we start analyzing the work of “Letter D sir, because 28 is greater-than
group 1.” -30.”
“What is your answer in #1?
Explain it why that is your
answer”
“Very good.”
“Next, what’s your answer in “Letter A sir, because it is the farthest

“Very good class. Okay next is “Letter B sir, because it is -19, it means
#3.” it has a less value.
“Nice try class but it is not the
correct answer for #3. I will
explain it later.” (The students are doing the Nanay

answer in #4.”
“Very good class, next is #5.”
“Nice try class, but it is not the
right answer, I’ll explain it
later.” “Letter B sir, because 12+ -13 = -1.”
“The group 1 get a score of 3.
Give them class a Nanay
Dionisia clap.”
“Okay next, we will analyze the
work of group 2.” “Letter A sir, because -23 + -18 is equal

“Good job class. Okay next is (The students are doing the Hooray clap)
#3.”
“Very good class, next is #4.”

“Very good class, last is #5.”

“Good job class, you got a “Absolute value

class a Hooray clap.”
c. Abstraction
“Okay class, again, our topic
for today is about the absolute
value of a number.”
“What is the absolute value?
Can anyone define it?”

“Correct. So, we have here a

number line,
before we start doing the absolute
value thing, we have your number
line in which the center of this
number line is zero and the
numbers on the left side of zero
are the negative numbers, the
numbers on the right side of zero
are the positive numbers like one
two three four five.”

“We have here an example:”

1. |4|
2. |-3|
3. |14|+|-14|

“As you can see, we have here

the bars |4|, the two bars and
closing positive four and the other “Yes Sir.”
numbers, this one denotes
absolute value or your ask for the
absolute value of negative 4 again
you can read this as the absolute
value of negative 4.”

“Did you understand class?”

“The question here is how can we
find the absolute value of a
number like, example number “To find this absolute value, we need to
one, absolute value of four and know how far four is from zero so given
given this definition absolute this number line, we can count the
value is simply the distance of a number of distance or units this four
number from zero so we have here from zero.”
four.”
“So, class how do we find the
absolute value of four?”

“Very clear explanation class. So,

let's count we have here one, two, “Yes sir.”
three, four so it simply means that
the absolute value of 4 is 4, is
simply because it is the number of
distances between 4 and 0.”

“Did you get it class?” “The absolute value of -3 is 3.”

“Okay next problem is |-3|.” “Because it is the distance of 3 from

“Let’s start counting from zero zero.”
going to the right because it is
negative. One, two, three.”
“What is the answer class?”

“Why?”

“Good job, you are learning class.

Remember class in finding the
absolute value all you need to do
is to remove the negative sign.”

“Okay next is the problem number

3. What is the absolute value of |
14|+|-14|?”
“We have integrated some
operation here, we are asked here
the absolute value of 14 plus the
absolute value of negative 14.
Again, the absolute value of 14
plus the absolute value of negative
14. So, before we apply the
addition symbol here, we need to
go first and find the absolute
value of 14 and negative 14. So,
the absolute value of 14 is simply
14 plus the absolute value of
negative 14 is also 14 by removing
its negative sign so all in all to
sum it up the absolute value
of 14 plus the absolute value of
negative 14 is simply 14 plus 14
which is 28.”

“We have another problem here,

this time we use the <, >, =
symbol, you are familiar with this
sign because we play it before we
start our lesson, so here is the
problem.”
“The answer is greater than sir. Because
Use the symbol <, >, = to make the |-10| is 10, simply remove the
the statement true. negative sign and the |5| is 5. 10 is
1. |-10|___|5| obviously greater than 5.”
2. |5|_____|-8|
3. |-17|____|17| “The answer is less than sir, because the
|5| is 5 and the |-8| is 8.”
“What is the answer in number 1?
Give also your explanation.” “The answer is equal sir because they
have the same value.”

“Very good. What’s the answer in

number 2?”

“Good job. Next is number 3,

what’s the answer?” “After the class hour sir, Jaime and I
were going home. Jaime’s house located

real life situation that involving
the absolute value?” “The absolute value of a number is
important in our lives mostly in
computing distance from place one to
another.”
“Excellent example class. Now
what is the importance of absolute
value in our lives?”

“Very good. In real life, measures

such as length and distance are
always expressed as positive
numbers. Meanwhile, in real
world, negative numbers
commonly indicate a direction.
Such as either going left or down.”

(Students are grouping into 4)

d. Abstraction
