Two simple rules:

- READ the entire guide once before actually getting on to it.

- If you skip a step or happen to miss out on anything, DO NOT blame me for any damage done to your
device.

GETTING READY:-

- Download Android SDK (http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r11-windows.zip)

- Unzip & launch "SDK Manager.exe"

- Cancel the first popup & go to "Available packages > Third party Add-ons > Google Inc."

- Select "Google USB Driver package" & hit on "Install Selected"

- Once the installation is done, go to the SDK installation "extras\google\usb_driver" folder

- From the Open "android_winusb.inf" and add the following lines to both "[Google.NTx86]" and
"[Google.NTamd64]" sections :

;Google Nexus S GT-i9023

%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4E20

- Save and close the file.

- Open Device Manager (Star>Run, then type "devmgmt.msc" without quotes & hit enter) make
sure you don't see this problem (windows failed to identify the SNS and install the correct
drivers)

- In the list, you should see your device listed as - Android 1.0

- Select and right click on then to choose "Update Driver Software"

- From the popped up menu, Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

- Browse to the the Android SDK installation directory - "extras\google\usb_driver"

- Make sure to choose the option "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

- Then from the list three choices select Android Bootloader Interface.

If the drivers are installed properly it should show up - Android Bootloader Interface in the Device Manager
window. If the drivers aren't installed properly, then everything you follow after this stage will be futile and
won't happen.

NOTE: if you encounter problems like question marks, unknown drivers, or exclamation marks eve after you
have installed the drivers, download and try the USBDeview 32/64 to remove and uninstall all the junk USB
devices from your computer/registry.

- Go to the Windows "Control Panel"

- Click on "System and Security" Or Click on "System"

- Go to "Advanced System Settings" in the left column of the window.

- Find the button called "Environment Variables" on the window that pops up.

- Scroll down in the "System variables" box until you find "Path".

- Select "Path" and click the "Edit" button

- At the very beginning of the input field called "Variable value" enter the following:

"C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools;"

- Do not remove any of the other paths behind that text, and make sure you have a semi colon at the end of
the new path you're adding.

- Click Apply and move on.

- Download the ClockworkMod recovery image 3.0.2.4 for your device (Crespo) from here.

- Move that file to the Android SDK's "tools" folder

- Rename that recovery file to 3024-i9023.img (ensure you dont goof up with file extensions)

- Download su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip from http://bit.ly/su2361ef

- Save it to the Android SDK "platform-tools" Directory

- Copy the AdbWinApi.dll and AdbWinUSBApi.dll from "platform-tools" folder of Android

SDK to "Tools" folder.

- Turn Off your Nexus S and connect it to the PC via the USB cable

- Hold Volume UP & Power button at the same time to boot the Nexus into the Bootloader
Interface,

- On screen information of Nexus S may have following line:LOCK STATE - LOCKED

UNLOCK:-

...

Selecting YES will wipe EVERYTHING from the SNS, so make sure you have backed up
everything you needed to safe before you continue.

- Use the Volume up/down keys to select and Power key to apply

you should see something like this after it's done

... OKAY [435.433s]

finished. total time: 435.433s

Now back on this screen would display: LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED

FLASH CUSTOM RECOVERY:-

- Open a command prompt (Start>Run & type "CMD" & hit enter)

- Switch to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK & go to "tools"

- Then type "fastboot flash recovery 3024-i9023.img" & hit enter

The Nexus S mobile screen should show text similar to below:

sending 'recovery' (3980 KB)... OKAY [ 0.621s]

writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.511s]

finished. total time: 1.132s

(If you don't see the above message then download the recovery again)

- Then go back on the Nexus S select RECOVERY

(DO NOT REBOOT or POWER OFF because the ClockWorkMod Recovery flash is
temporary and gets wiped once the device is rebooted.)
