BlackBerry, originally known as 'Research in Motion' founded by two engineering students

in 1984. The company was initially bent towards developing data technology and
connectivity products. In the early days, the company marked a huge inclination towards
developing equipments to facilitate wireless connectivity for consumer' ease. After having
such a remarkable response, the big Tech Giant finds its way towards launching mobile
phones into the market.

BlackBerry launched its first mobile phone in year 1999 into the market which drives great
attention of the customers. These devices gave the facilties like emails and internet faxing
which was limited to dekstop only at that time. These devices had a qwerty keypad which
made typing faster, email and internet access which made it famous. The company was at its
peak in the year 2013 as there were about 85 million cutomer base across the globe. The
Company once reigned as 'King of the Smartphone' and captivated the Corporate World in
early 90's. At that time, BlackBerry was considered as absolute nuts and became a sign of
status in the society. The most renowned persons in the society used to have these mobiles.
The BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) like Whatsapp at that time enjoyed mass popularity at
that time.

In the year 2016 BlackBerry lost its domination in the mobile market and the customer base
was declined to merely 23 million . In accordance with the loss, the management of this
company has decided to terminate 4500 employees from their positions due to shortfall of
finance. But what's the reason behind major fall of this Tech Giant and why did it lose its
charm in the market. Let us find that:

Failure of BlackBerry

After enjoying immense success of corporate world , something unfortunate was set up to
take place which would blew the company off from market completely.

BlackBerry's sales eventually declined, as the sales of iOS & Android grew rapidly. But
What Gone Wrong?

The iPhone was launched into the market in 2007 but it was not taken seriously by
BlackBerry but iphone sets target for each and everything brought by BlackBerry in early
days like OS, Security Systems etc. They thought that iPhone is just a flashy toy which aims
at young people only but this assumption became one of the major reason for the failure of
BlackBerry at that time. Everyone enjoyed using iPhone as it came up with bright colours and
smooth touch screen.

Secondly, BlackBerry was selling its products to Corporate people only but iPhone made a
great impact over consumer mind as it sold its products directly to Consumers & usage of
iPhone grew quickly and BlackBerry went down.

The period 2008-16 when mobile industry was rapidly changing but BlackBerry denied to
make any change in its original ideology.

It was late to call BlackBerry mobile a so called 'Smartphone' as these phones wouldn't offer
adapatable UI's for different apps. Its original smartphone lags 6 years by apple's first iPhone
but market moved on by that time. One of side effect for being late that app developers were
not willing to build platform for BlackBerry due to which Apps Sucked.
BlackBerry devices's hardware was not that much impressive that it could attract so called
'fan base' due to which it experience a great lag in the competition. In Continuation to that
Cameras are too pathetic in these devices as well.

Most of BlackBerry products were quite expensive and lacked innovation that needed to
break into the market so it lost out! The only standard of BlackBerry devices  i.e. its
Security. It was also challenged after iPhone launched its secure hardware and OS and it was
unable to beat Apple devices in security.

Moreover, Google services like Gmail, Google Hangouts were also not supported by
BlackBerry devices which became prominent reason for getting fade away from the market.
Also the hardware business of BlackBerry faced a failure because it failed leverage the
popularity of BBM. But after WhatsApp being launched and services offered by it, People
simply had no reason to use a BlackBerry device and its popularity faded away from the
mobile market.

So, In a Nutshell, Lack of Innovation; Improper Target Audience; Usage of Restricted

Operating Software; Lack of Support from Prime Developers; Poor Build Quality; No
effective and timely upgrades etc. makes the company unable to anticipate the consumers &
bring mobile revolution in market world. This led to the demise of Big Tech Giant
BLACKBERRY!
