MODULE 4
PRE-
ASSESSMENT: Provide what are being asked.
LET’S DO IT:
TASK 10: Write a 300-word analysis paper how global media challenge the mainstream
ideas on consumerist capitalism?
Various expensive and affordable beauty products, clothes, vehicles, gadgets, foods
and beverages widespread across the globe only through global media. Nonstop
commercial advertisement in all channels of communication, append the product
companies paid and sponsored a lot of celebrities and social media influencers to promote
their product by charming and persuading the consumer to make purchases. All of these
made people craze to buy as many as they can that sometimes put them into debt.
With global media, the world’s standard become more and more hard to reach. One
of it is the crazy beauty standard that numbers of women wish to achieve. Mostly women
of today spending much money just to be look pretty. From beauty products and body
shaper equipment to cosmetic surgeries, this kind of trend made them believe that if they
go with it, it will make them feel more valuable and their new way of expressing
womanhood.
Moreover, in terms of today’s entertainment, new release films, plays and television
series are more accessible to people. Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, YouTube, Vudu, Amazon
Instant, LoveFilm, Baidu, NowTV and Vimeo are just the few streaming services that
people being craze with. They spend much money just to watch new release movies.
Despite of influences brought by global media, there’s still number of citizens who
are still insulated from or at least not very much influence by the global media. Most of
these citizens are coming from Third World countries like Philippines. High cost of
digital gadgets, lack of electric power in isolated regions and poverty are the reasons of
not being attach by global media.
Thus, too much and lesser attachment in global media brought challenges to the
consumerist capitalism. We can’t deny the fact that people will do anything just to be on
trend though it will make their life thrimp on debt.
TASK 11: Look a Filipino song with an English version, or a foreign song with a Filipino
translation. Cut the lyrics and paste in the short bond paper. Then, below answer this
questions; what do these cultural appropriations tell us the nature of globalization?
TASK 12: You are attending a peace rally to condemn the recent bombings in certain
parts of the world. As the public relations officer of your organization, you are assigned
to lead the opening prayer. You are advised to limit the prayer to two to three minutes.
Write a 300-word personal prayer.
God, who is all-powerful and all-merciful, you have taught us to love one another
through Christ Jesus. To love our neighbors as we want to be loved, and to even love our
foes. When there is a lot of violence and panic, let Christ’s peace reign in our hearts so
that we are not overtaken by evil. However, good must triumph over evil. Assist us in
seeing each person in the light of God’s love and grace.
God, you are the God of justice and peace, love and life. We admit that we are
frequently overtaken by fear and anger’s loud and insistent voices. We don’t hear Jesus’
voice, which is barely a whisper. Fear trumpets, “Kill those whom your fear may kill
you”. The strong shall inherit the earth and the rich shall forever rule the earth.” Despite
this, Jesus says, “The meek are blessed, for they will inherit the earth.” Peacemakers are
blessed, since they will be called children of God.
Anger proclaims, “Those who live by the sword shall not only live, but flourish.
Might makes right.” But Jesus says, “Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw
the sword shall die by the sword.”
The voices of anger and fear seem so strong but the wisdom is so alluring. The way
so sensible and safe. Still Jesus tells us that there is another way of peace and justice, the
way of love and life. When we lack the courage to see your way, O, God, when fear and
anger overwhelm our faith, encourage and embolden us. Open us, O God, that we may
follow the Prince of Peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
1.How do local and global media interact in country like the Philippines?
Well, the local and global media interact in the Philippines in ways similar to how a
global product is adapted for a localized market. With the help of numerous media,
spreading awareness of this product is considerably easier.
2.Is the global village still an imagined community? Why or why not?
For some, yes. Global village still an imagined community and will remain so as
long as people hold on to their national sentiment and didn’t just share one collective
identity. After all were a global community because of globalization.
3.How can religion be a force for peace in a world increasingly ridden with religious
fiction?
Religion represents powerful civil society communities and institutions, which are
generally perceived as representing unifying principles that transcend contentious
subjects; they are frequently among the most stable, most trusted entities in crisis
situations that capable of settling disputes.
Consider the accomplishments of organizations like the Community of Sant’Egidio,
which included successfully brokering the 1992 Mozambique peace agreement after 30
years of civil conflict. Interfaith efforts in South Africa, Muslim-Christian alliances
formed in the aftermath of the Balkan crises, and the ecumenical Christian activities in
Colombia are further instances.
