Stitchmarkers
needles for working in the round

Gauge:
Gauge is not critical to this project. Select a needle size that will give you your desired
gauge. I prefer to knit with a needle size about 1 size larger than the ball band
recommendation in order to get a shawl-like drape.

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
m1r – make 1 right – lift strand between
stitches from the back, knit into the front of
the loop
m1l – make 1 left – list strand between
stitches from the front, knit into the back of
the loop
pm – place marker
slm – slip marker
CO – cast on
BO – bind off
EOR – end of round
m – marker

Note: all RS rows are increase rows.

Sections 1 and 2 are worked flat, then joined
in section 3 to work in the round.

Instructions:
CO 3 sts. K6 rows.

At the end of last row, do not turn to work other side, rotate piece 90 degrees

Section 3:
Join as follows to begin working in a round:

Joining Round: Holding DPN in front of work on left needle (the next 3 stitches you will
work using one stitch from DPN together with one stitch from the left needle), (k2tog,
pm) three times, p to m, [(K to m, sm) three times, p to marker] 3 times.

Next Round (increase round): (K to m, M1R, slm, k1, slm, M1L, k to m, slm, k to m,
slm) four times.

Next Round: [(K to m, sm) three times, p to marker] four times.

Repeat last two rounds until work is 1.5 inches from desired length

Border: (note: you will be working the border flat, wrapping the next stitch and turning
the work as you begin the next round, this prevents having to have a super-long
purlback round on the larger sizes)

Change color for border if desired.

Next Round (increase round): (K to m, M1R, slm, k1, slm, M1L, k to m, slm, k to m,
slm) four times.

Next Round: Sl m and next st purlwise, bring yarn to front, place slipped stitch and
marker back on left needle, turn work and knit to EOR.

Next Round (increase round): Sl m and next st purlwise, bring yarn to front, place
slipped stitch and marker back on left needle, turn work, (k to m, M1R, slm, k1, slm,
M1L, k to m, slm, k to m, slm)
four times.

Repeat last two rows for 1.5

inches or desired length, ending
after an increase round. Do not
turn work,
bind off loosely and block, being
careful to keep the finished
border and garter
transition lines straight. I prefer to
block this when folded in half.
