 a) REPORTED SPEECH

Vanessa:

-The Commander President Hugo Chavez says: “Obama will win the
elections in the USA”
RS: The commander president Hugo Chavez said that “Obama will win
the elections in the USA”.
- Mr. Juan Ventura is saying: “My House is smaller than a building”
RS: Juan Ventura is saying that his house is smaller than a building.
-Dr. Ramirez has said: “Some generations will accept these, others will
no”
RS: Dr. Ramirez has said that some generations will accept these,
others will no.

Isleyer

- The English teacher is saying: “A scientist may fall into error while
following the procedures of the so-called scientific method”
RS: The English teacher is saying that a scientist may fall into error

- The History teachers have said: “Margaret Thatcher is one of the first
female ministers in history”.

b) Técnicas para interpretar lecturas

Vanessa:

- Some generations will accept these, others will not.

- Algunas generaciones las aceptarán, otras no.

Interpretation: Es pertinente con lo que se vive al pasar las culturas y

vivencias, unas están acostumbradas al momento determinado y a medida que
pasa el tiempo se deben hacer adaptaciones para sobrevivir y las generaciones
pasadas les cuesta adaptarse.

- If a student is on the honor roll, he may spend his free periods in the library
Reading whatever he wishes.
- Si un alumno está en el cuadro de honor, podrá pasar sus ratos libres en la
biblioteca leyendo lo que desee.

Interpretation: La mejor recompensa, un libro para descubrir, conocer, viajar y

adquirir mayor conocimiento y vocabulario.

Isleyer:

- It is sometimes good to meet people whose opinions defferents from yours

- A veces es bueno conocer personas cuyas opiniones difieren de la tuya.

Interpretation: Conocer personas que no aprueben tus opiniones, que no

coincidan en ningún acto contigo, es un reto de conocimientos, de
experiencias, de ideas y de saberes, puesto que generar polémicas en
profundidad sobre un tema es aprender más de lo conocido.

-To be ignorant of one`s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant.

Ser ignorante de la propia ignorancia es la enfermedad del ignorante.

Interpretation: La ignorancia es vista como la falta de conocimientos, lo oscuro

del saber. Es una enfermedad en personas o grupos sociales que se niegan a
conocer lo desconocido

c) Comprensión de textos

If you stand in a busy place in a big cosmopolitan city, like Times Square in
New York or Piccadilly Circus in London, and watch people go by, you will
realize how intermixed the people of the modern world are.

Traduction

Si te paras en un lugar concurrido de una gran ciudad cosmopolita, como

Times Square en Nueva York o Piccadilly Circus en Londres, y ves pasar a
la gente, te darás cuenta de lo mezclada que está la gente del mundo
moderno.

Interpretation: Trata acerca de la cultura y su diversidad, en cualquier parte

del mundo y aún más en esas que por excelencia se considera un boom.

All my troubles seemed so far away

Now it looks as though they`re here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday Above us
Traduction:

Ayer

Todos mis problemas parecían tan lejos Ahora parece que están aquí para
quedarse Oh, creo en el ayer por encima de nosotros.

Interpretation: Vivir en las acciones y sentimientos pasados y que a veces

pueden estar presentes en el día a día de las personas y nos hacen crear
nuestro futuro.
