Bariatric Surgery

My topic is bariatric surgery. I am trying to answer the question of which type of surgical weight

loss is most beneficial for morbidly obese people? I chose this topic because it relates to my

personal life. Both of my parents have had some form of surgical weight loss. I didn't know

much about bariatric surgery, so I wanted to use it as my topic.

No matter what each of these sources may say. None of the different types of weight loss surgery

are immediate fixes. It takes months to lose weight after surgery. It also takes an extreme amount

of dieting and working out. However, different choices of bariatric surgery can make the weight

come off faster.

The prospective patient must also consider the safety of each type of bariatric surgery. Some

types of surgery might be more dangerous than others, depending on the person. While Western

Bariatric Institute, in their article, "What is the Safest Weight Loss Surgery?" claims that the

Vertical Sleeve is the safest type of weight loss surgery, Beltline Health, in their article, "Which

Type of Bariatric Surgery is Best For You?" claims that a person's current medical conditions

will determine which type of surgery is the safest for them. The surgeries on their own are all

safe.

Each type of bariatric surgery has different levels of difficulty. In Michael Korenkov's book

"Bariatric Surgery.", Andrea Laghi's book "Imaging in Bariatric Surgery.", and Diego Camacho's
book "Complications in Bariatric Surgery." They explain the Adjustable Gastric Banding

procedures, Proximal (Classic) Gastric Bypass, and Sleeve Gastrectomy. They also explain the

complications that can occur with each surgery. The surgery that can cause the most

complications is Gastric Bypass.

I still have more research to do; however, I think I know the answer to my research question. The

type of surgical weight loss that is most beneficial for morbidly obese people depends on the

person. The person's weight, eating habits, and prior medical conditions can determine which

surgery is the best for them.
