“Blurry”

“Cause I am lost without you, I cannot live at all” is what you might say once you listen

and watch the both of the “Blurry” music videos. “Blurry” originally written and sung by Puddle of

Mudd and the cover “Blurry” by Hardy both share the same beat but use a different way to show

the meaning. In one version of the song, it is showing him having flashbacks to his old family

and how it used to be and the other version shows how his heart breaks have gotten him to

where he is at today. The song ‘“Blurry” by Puddle of Mudd was released in 2001 and the cover

by Hardy was released in 2021.

"Blurry" by Puddle Of Mudd and the cover by Hardy both share a similar refrain and theme.

Although, the Puddle of Mudd version appeals to a more emotional concept throughout the

video.

The original “Blurry” that was sung and written by Puddle of Mudd has a very deep

meaning behind it. The song overall is about how he has “traveled the sea” to find someone that

is real and truthful in this world. It also is trying to put the word out that everything is so messed

up and a mess at all times. It goes through the motions, and explains that if he had this girl

back, things would get much easier. The music video gives an emotional appeal because at first

it is just him singing on stage then gives us flashbacks of his past. This emotional appeal would

be pathos. Pathos was used throughout this video in lots of ways. In the video, there are

moments and flashbacks of him, his son and the girl he would “travel the sea” for. He misses

this girl very much and what relationship all three of them had. This version of the song has less
beat and is a little slower. This one is a little older, so that would make sense. This version is

also about relationship problems so it has a sadder and slower beat. Overall, this version has

the deeper meaning of his life and his relations to other people. On the other hand, the cover by

Hardy is a bit different.

The cover of “Blurry” by Hardy has the same exact words but a very different meaning.

This version of the song has a meaning that now that he is famous, he has a very hard time

finding people that are real. Since his fame, people think he is “living the dream” even though

that is not what it is like at all. In the music video, there are pictures and collages of him now

being famous, it then shows him singing on stage. When the song says, “can you take it all

away” he is implying to take everything that came from the frame away and give him back the

life he had before fame. Hardy does love the party life some of the time, but deep down he is

missing the real people he used to have. Although the other version was about him having a

relationship with another girl/woman, Hardy is in a happy relationship, so this is not about that

kind of love or relationship. This version has a much upbeat tone. Hardy is a country rock artist

so he always has a loud beat to it. Overall, the version written by Hardy is about how his life has

become since he has been famous. This just proves that a song can have the same exact

words and have 2 different meanings. Even though they both have two different meanings, they

also have some similarities throughout.

The two music videos, one from Puddle of Mudd and the cover sung by Hardy have

some similarities throughout them. Both of the versions start out with them singing on a stage.

They also both have a meaning of relationships being fake and unreal. The two versions of the

songs have the same exact words, with just a little difference in the beat and tone. In the music

videos, they both show flashbacks of their past lives from a long time ago, proving that they

miss the people that used to be in their lives and they wish the real people that they once had

would come back. For the most part, both the versions of the songs have a similarity of missing
people from their past and wishing they had real genuine people in their lives. Although this

music video has some similarities it also has some major differences as well.

The two music videos also have lots of differences as well. The version from Puddle of

Mudd is about his relationship with his past wife/girlfriend that he once had a family with that is

now not in his life anymore. Hardys version is about his relationships with his friends and

everyone he knows after his fame and how they are not real anymore. The music videos are

also very different in ways, not just the song meaning. Puddle of Mudd's music video of “Blurry”

shows real flashbacks of him and his kid doing things together. This music video also shows

him, his child and his wife in a kitchen at one point. He then gets shown on stage singing his

heart out as if he is using that as therapy. The version of “Blurry” by Hardys music video first

shows pictures of him before fame, then shows pictures and videos of him during fame. There is

also pathos used in this video as well. Throughout the video it shows Hardy with his music crew

and proves that these are the only real people he has in his life since fame. He then has clips of

him at concerts singing his heart out and really putting his heart into it. Both of these songs,

even with the same words and beat, have very different music videos and meanings.

In conclusion, "Blurry" by Puddle Of Mudd and the cover by Hardy both share a similar

refrain and theme. Although, the Puddle of Mudd version appeals to a different emotional

concept throughout the video, than Hardy does. Hardy goes into the emotions of having fake

friends. He also has flashbacks of his past friendships before fame in his music video. Puddle of

the Mudd on the other hand has a deeper meaning of love and relationships with a girl. Overall

though, the two music videos and songs both have emotional appeal, they are both just

interpreted in different ways.
