What story is being told in the video? Who are the main characters?

Video 2003- I feel like the story being told is there is to much pain in the world. That there is so much

hate. The world talks of love and working together. At the same time there is love. There is war, kids

dying, drugs, killing so much pain. Why do eve all go around saying peace or talk of being kind but we

aren’t doing it. The song tells of finding love and having values again. The song talks of spreading love

and for the help of God to guide us.

The main characters I feel like are the black eye peas, but also Society.

Video 2016- I feel like the story is the same it has the same message. I feel like with this video it is talking

of what is going on more presently. With all the hate and fighting, also immigration.

The main characters are still the black eye peas. But, they also have other singers in it. I noticed they

also had families of some who are the victims to these hate crimes.

What is the main claim of the music video? In other words, what does the story being told make the

viewer think about?

Video 2003- it makes me the viewer thing about a lot. As a mother it does make me worry for my kids.

At the same time it makes me want to raise my kids to be strong and to be kind. It makes me think how

can there be so much pain. I want to be the helping hand. I want my kids to grow in a world even if there

has to be hate; I want them to me that glee of hope and love. I believe in the ripple effect. We also need

to learn not to just make post of being kind and wearing those shirts, but we need to be the example of

love and kindness. We need to be more then a tik tok post showing our kindness. Be kind to be kind not
for views. It’s ok to not agree with someone and still be friends. I feel like there is so much we can get

out of this song.

Video 2016- This video makes me think the same as the 2013. It does hit me differently in an emotion

aspect. When pictures are put with what’s going on you can’t help but feel some kind of heart break. We

all need to stop think our skin color is better then one other and love each other. After all we all bleed

the same. Hate is hate no matter the color. We need to spread love. This video is a bit different towards

the end. It talks of people wanting to be right. No one wants to agree or listen to each other. I like how

it says love is the key to everything. It helps me believe that love over powers all.

Does the video provide any reasons for the claim? Be specific.

Video 2003- I feel like it does. I feel like it touches your heart when you see all the destruction of people,

dealing, and fighting. Hearing the words also I feel like hit a little differently when it’s mentioned kids

dying and people practice what they preach. Being a mom hearing this song may hit me differently also

then others

Video 2016- Yes, it does. It shows a lot of pictures of what’s going on in the world today. Pictures that

will be part of history.

Does the video provide any evidence? For instance, are there any facts, statistics, expert (doctors,

scientists, government officials) opinions, or anecdotes (first hand experiences) to support the claim? If

so, list them and be specific.

Video 2003- I feel like there may be a little of both. They showed pictures and news clips of things that

have happened in the world. I want to say anecdotes also because I’m sure some of the mentions in the

song come from first hand experience.

Video 2016- there are both in this video. They provide us with pictures of what is going on presently.

They also include families of victims holding pictures of their loved ones.

What types of appeals does the video use? Pathos (emotional), Ethos (showing its sources for

information and provide credible testimony), or Logos (providing clear reasons and evidence, appealing

to the viewers intellect or rational mind).

Video 2003- this video provides pathos and logos. The pathos because it really can be an emotional

song. It just hits you right in the feelings. The logos would be the showing of the news clips and

connecting with the audience of things they experience.

Video 2016- This video also had pathos and logos. The pathos and logos worked together in this video.

Based on your answers, who is the audience for this advertisement? Some things to consider when

thinking about audience appeal are the following. (Note: not all of these are always relevant, and there

may be other relevant conditions that are not listed. For instance, some ads may have nothing to do

with one's religion.)

Video 2003- The audience is most people.

Video 2016- This video is the same as the last; it is for all people.
Based on the answers to your questions, what would you say is the relationship between the versions?

Are the claims the same or different for each version? Explain your answer. Does one more effectively

get the message across? If so, why? Do the two versions appeal to different audiences? If so, describe

those differences? How does each version appeal to that specific audience? Are the purposes the same?

If so, why did the artists make two versions?

I feel like the relationship between the two videos are the same. The claims are even the same in both

videos. The claims are the same because it has the same message to spread to the world. They both talk

about hate going on in the world and finding the love to stop the hate. Even though both are equally

good And have the same message, I feel like the 2016 version is more effective. The only reason why I

say that is because it hits on topic with the photos of what is going on presently in the world today. The

appeals I feel like aim towards the same audience. The 2016 does Appel a little more to todays society I

feel. The reasoning is because we are seeing all of this stuff going on now. We see it on the news we

hear it on the radio. It’s everywhere. The purposes are the same for both videos. I feel like some times a

remake of a great song is something the world may need to come back to reality when there is so much

hate.
