1. Define the term Management.


Management is an art of getting things done through and with the people in

2. Write the meaning of Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur is a person who creates a new enterprise by coordinating the various
inputs such as land, labour and capital for production purposes. He assumes all risk
and is prone to various uncertainties, in order to achieve profit and growth of the
business .
3. Define ‘Planning’.
Planning is an intellectual process, the conscious determination of courses of action,

4. What is the meaning of Strategic Management?
It can be defined as the process of developing an effective strategy or strategies that
help achieve corporate objectives.

It refers to a structure of well defined jobs each bearing a measure of authority and
responsibility. It is a conscious determination by which people accomplish goals by
adhering to the norms laid down by the structure.
6. Explain the term ‘Design’.
A design is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or for

7. Outline the meaning of Motivation.
Motivation is the desire within an individual that stimulates him or her to action

16.(a) Davinder is a class twelfth commerce student in a reputed school in Punjab.


Satinder is his elder brother who is doing his Masters in Hospital Administration from
Delhi after completing his B.Sc course. During vacations, when Satinder comes
home, Davinder shows him the business studies project that he is preparing on the
topic ‘Principles of Management’. Satinder also tells him that these principles are also
a course of MBA curriculum at the beginner’s level as they form the core of

authority at the top level. In other words, centralization is a situation in which top

16. XYZ industries is a manufacturing organization with line and staff organization. Pandian,
a young staff officer developed a plan of increasing the life of certain equipments in the plant.

He took the plan directly to the foreman of the department but was rebuffed by the supervisor
who privately acknowledged the merit of the plan but resented the staff officer by showing
his talents. The Staff officer’s association condemned the behaviour of Pandian that he should
have allowed the plan to appear as a contribution of the staff group rather than his own.

An organizational chart is a pictorial representation or a diagram that shows the

7. What is job satisfaction?
Job satisfaction is defined as the extent to which an employee feels self-motivated,
content & satisfied with his/her job. Job satisfaction happens when an employee
feels he or she is having job stability, career growth and a comfortable work life
balance.
8. Define Job enrichment.
Job enrichment is a common motivational technique used by organizations to give
an employee greater satisfaction in his work. It means giving an employee additional
responsibilities previously reserved for his manager or other higher-ranking positions.
9. What is Budgetary Control?
Budgetory control is a system which uses budgets as a means of planning and
controlling all aspects of producing and/or selling commodities or services.

Modern Manufacturing Company has been using a budgetary control system for the last three
years. When asked to explain the system, John the Managing Director of the company
observed: “We’re pretty flexible in our budgetary system. Every manager is given a total
amount which he or she can spend for the next year. We don’t care of how it is used as long
as the total isn’t exceeded and organizational objectives are achieved.”
