Desire of Ages: chapter 5

The chapter 5 is all about the dedication. I was able to learn new lessons in this topic. First, I

learned that after Jesus was born, about 40 days, they went to the temple in Jerusalem to be

dedicated. This is according to the Jewish law. He had already been subjected to the rite of

circumcision, as a pledge of His obedience. I also learned that the offerings represent Jesus – free

from physical deformity. For the law requires them to offer in which they are to bring and offer a

lamb, for the burnt offering and a turtle dove, as a sin offering. But if the parents are poor, a pair

of turtle doves or pigeons can be used. And they are to be without any blemished, for this

offering symbolizes God, the lamb without blemishes, not marred by any defect. He is strong and

healthy. An example of wat God designed all humanity to be through obedience to the Lord. The

dedication of the first born was started a long time ago, and God promised to give the first born

from heaven to save the sinner. The dedication also happened in Egypt, in the time of Moses,

when the Lord said to put a blood on the door off the home so the lives of the first born will be

saved and spared. Those were the earlier records of child dedication. Back in the time of the birth

of Jesus, the priest did not think that Baby Jesus was the One of whom Moses had written. The

dedication of baby Jesus was not that majestic, but a simple one. For Joseph and Mary were

poor, dressed humbly. There was nothing in their appearance that would attract attention. The

Priest did not know that He was blessing the one, Jesus. Little did he think that the babe was the

majestic of Heaven, the king of glory. I learned that Simeon, and the Anna, the humble

worshippers knew and did not study the word of God in vain. As Simeon entered the temple, ha

saw Joseph and Mary and was impressed and when he saw Baby Jesus, he went to hold the babe,

and he lifted up his arm and thanked the Lord. He also told them that he was ready to rest in

peace for he was told by the Holy Ghost that death will not come until he has seen the baby
 Jesus. And Anna saw the baby two and confirmed it in the testimony of Simeon. But another

lesson I knew, is Mary still didn’t know at that time what the real mission of Jesus is. Even other

people taught that Jesus came to deliver Israel. NO, Jesus was here to save us, and to let the

world know that He is the redeemer of the world. He came to change/correct the narrow, Jewish

conception Christ work. Thus Mary, will take years to learn and know the real mission of Jesus.

Another lesson is, Satan tries the people to misunderstand God. That Jesus wants the people to

look at Jesus as a selfish, oppressive, claiming all and giving nothing making no sacrifice for

their good. No. Jesus is not like that. The gif of Christ reveals the fathers heart. The Lord Hats

sin but really loves the sinner. God love us so much that He gave His life for us. That we may be

saved. He gives all for the man. The greatest happiness is found if we love the Lord.

I learned that we should always be dedicated upon the word of God. In that way. I can be guided

day by day, and once we are dedicated by the world of God, I as a youth, I need to create a closer

bond with the Lord in that way, I will always be guided and be a useful tool in spreading the

word of God and be a tool in God’s ministry.

In the past I struggled in the story of the dedication, why we are to be dedicated in the Lord, but

right now, I was able to understand the true meaning and reason why we have that dedication

today.

The practical steps that I may be able to use and apply today is to continue in by spreading the

word of God, for there are s till a lot of youth’s out there who are questioning the existence of

God and through music, I will also display by plying my instruments. In that way, I will be able

to be a great tool in spreading the Lords work.
