Classroom Management Plan

A classroom management plan is important for a student’s education. There should be a

sense of welcome for students and an understanding of what they are expected to do. Having the

right environment for students is key to a successful classroom.

Philosophical Statement

I believe that a classroom should be a safe space for students and that students should be

able to express themselves to me and others. I think that everyone should be treated with the

same amount of respect in my classroom. I want students to be able to participate in class

without having the fear of being made fun of. Respect is crucial in the classroom because it

affects how students should interact with both the teacher and classmates.

For my teaching style, I have noticed that I am very patient and calm with students. I

think that students really like the fact that I am patient with them, but some also can take

advantage of that trait. I think that if I have a good balance of when to be very patient and when

not to, it will go well with the teaching style that I am developing. I also want to help students be

able to know how to do assignments before asking for help because I don’t want to just give

them the information without them retaining that knowledge. I would also like to interact with

students more to gain trust and comfort. I want students to be comfortable around me and to be

comfortable with asking me for any help. I am also thinking about allowing fidget toys and
sensory items that help students focus in class. I just want my students to be respected and

comfortable in my classroom.

Room Arrangement

For my classroom I want it to be colorful yet calming. I want it to feel like you won’t be

bored in the class at first glance. There would be posters of either snippets of our future lessons

or motivational posters. For backpacks I would either have the students keep them with them or

on either one side of the room depending on the size and structure. I would love to add a small

library in the back of the classroom next to the teacher’s desk and behind the last table/desk. I

think that it would be a nice touch to have a small space for students to read. That small section

would be calming and will probably most likely be used for students who don’t have a

comfortable space to read at. The small library is inspired by my high school teacher’s small

library in her room. I would also like to have a small bin of sensory/fidget toys for students who

might need them.

For the tables/desks I want to avoid having students constantly turning their entire body

around just to see what is going on. To resolve that issue, I think that having all the students

facing forward will be best. I expect there to be an exception to this so I would have some facing

into the left or right side of the table, but it will still be easy for them to see what is going on in

front. For the teachers desk I want to put it in the back because of the chance of students wanting

to talk without having to worry about others looking or most hearing what they tell me. I also put

it here because it is in a spot where I can get a good look at the students and small library.

I want most of the activities happening on the students’ table/desks because it would give

them the chance to help each other and socialize. For lessons I want it to be displayed in front of
the class. I feel it would make the most sense to be shown in front of the class and the most

convenient. For turning in assignments, I want the students to place their assignments stacked in

the middle of their tables/desks so it would be easier to know which students turned what in.

Classroom Rules

I think the best approach with classroom rules or just rules in general are being consistent

with implementing them. Being consistent with class rules will help students understand what is

allowed and what isn’t. I must be consistent in not only enforcing the rules but to follow the rules

myself. If I am not consistent, students will start to think that if I will let something go easily

because of a mistake I’ve made. I would leave reminders on the walls like posters that state some

of the rules. Also, whenever the class breaks a rule, I would remind them once again on which

rule, they break. I would communicate with parents if a student were constantly breaking rules

and treating others poorly. I want students to arrive to class knowing that they will be respected

and that they will respect others as well.

Classroom Procedures

With lessons I want them to be long enough for students to learn a good amount but short

enough to have room for other lessons and to not go past a child's attention span. I would have

lessons be around an hour or less depending on what it's about. I would like math, writing, and

science to be the longest. I want to have a time for individual reading that would be around 20 to

30 minutes or so. I want there to be participation in the class, like answering questions and

adding questions if needed, and class discussions. Not only do I want participation for those

reasons but also because participation would be part of their grades. I want lessons, specifically

science and history, to be interactive and fun. I think that having fun or having memorable

moments happening during the lesson will help students remember parts of the lesson, I say this
from personal experience. With those types of interactive lessons participation would be a big

part of the lesson as it is a class effort to get through the lesson.

I want to start lessons with what students are familiar with and lead it up to the new

information that will be taught. Lessons would last for a week or less depending on the difficulty

and size of the lesson. In class assignments will be used a lot because I think that it's a good way

to practice some skills in class. Some assignments would be used during the lesson or after the

lesson ends. I want there to be a balance of creativity and skill and drill on the class work. At the

end of the day, I would pass out homework and make sure that they understand what to do on the

homework. I would also be opened to tutoring students and teaching them individually with their

learning style. I understand that all students have different learning styles so I would try to have

my lessons cater to most of them. Homework and in class assignments would be around 15%,

group projects would be 25%, tests and presentations would also be 25% and participation would

be 10% of students' grades.

Encouragement and Motivation

I would encourage my students with positive affirmation and rewards. I would use prize

boxes or just small prizes to encourage students to behave well and be positive. With managing

misbehaving students, I would give them a verbal warning first and if the misbehaving continues,

they will get detention and a note to the parents. Some techniques to encourage students are

creating relationships with them. I think it's important to have a relationship with students

because it helps teachers understand the student more and it could inspire students more after

knowing how you are. Again, I think that creating a safe space for students is also encouraging

because it brings in opportunities to open and have open discussions about topics.
