Essay 3 Reflection

Essay 1 showed us how to use the subtitles in the introduction, body, and conclusion of

the paragraphs which is something that I have not done until now. It was a small addition to the

essays but it was something that I learned nonetheless. We used these throughout all the essays

including 3 so it is something that I learned in essay 1 that I learned and used in essay 3. Essay 2

taught us how to create an annotated bibliography which required an enormous among of

research on 10 different articles. The research of the articles allowed me to refine how and what

sources I was able to find. I eventually was able to find the sources I needed with the experience

that I learned from essay 2 that was applied to essay 3.

Essay 1 required us to create our own experiment that we conducted ourselves so that we

can see the results of said experiment. It was a new concept for any English class I’ve ever taken

and it was a fun experience that wasn’t repeated in any other essay we did. Essay 3 required us to

just create a claim about a topic pertaining to our interest. The experience of creating an

experiment and writing about the results is something that I learned in essay 1 that couldn’t be

used in essay 3.

I’ve already been exposed to what we’ve learned in essay 3 but, training about writing in

conjunction with peer-reviewed sources is always something good to do. Doing so helped build

the writing experience even more which will definitely make future essays easier to write. It will

especially be useful next semester as I am taking another writing course which is classified as a

writing intensive course.

The word count is something that I only ever have to worry about in an English class

essay. I think the word count in an essay is something that would not be applicable as I have

never experienced it outside of an English class essay.

The creation of an argument helps improve my writing because it lets me explain the side

I’m on and how I can effectively use the evidence that I searched for in an essay. For example,

we had to get around 6 sources to support our argument from our essay 3. I had to take small

parts from each source and put it into my essay so that I can present my argument. Doing this

helped me prepare for creating another argumentative essay in the future.

For essay 3 we did not do any student peer-review so we did not get any feedback from

students. Only feedback we did get from students was for the thesis statement for our first draft

of essay 3 where the students would see if the introduction were fine and the thesis is clear. The

results from that are that both the introduction was captivating and that the thesis was clear and

define.

Throughout all the essays I always received constructive feedback from the professor so

that I could fix my essay. For example, some of my feedback from essay 1 was a missing

subheading, incorrect in text citation, and missing details in topic sentences. For my essay 2 I

had an incorrect topic sentence for the body paragraph and incorrect usage of certain words that

didn’t belong. From this I believe that the feedback I would have on essay 3 would be something

in relation to the topic sentence or words that didn’t belong.

Since most of what was discussed in essay 3 was something that I’ve already been

exposed to I was already prepared for it. So, in short, the most challenging part of this essay was

to reach the word count. I had to include an extra 3 sources in order to bulk up the body

paragraphs some more as I was short of the word count. With the extra sources however, I was

able to easily hit that word count and add some extra evidence in for my claims.
